that would be weird if somebody quoted an iq that was a bit too optimistic. you rarely see that.

that is cool, i wish they would do more of this in schools and reward kids with talents like this. like musicians and artists. they call it it GT, but i would like to see more Talented kids in it. talents are awesome, i wish i had one. i had a friend in school who was a violin prodigy. he was super smart but only cared about violin, practiced 5 hours a day. now he makes a very good living in some symphony in minnesota. people like him deserve to get into the good schools just like the iq kids. i guess the problem is that it is too hard to quantify skills like that, so there is no real solution or easy way to for the system to work.

Don't sell yourself short. You have a pretty unique sense of humor. You could probably do standup. Of course, I know up in New York, standup comedians are a dime a dozen.

thanks, its true, i am incredibly funny and everyone i know loves me.

but i wish i had a talent like musical skills or the the ability to draw. i can play drums reasonably well, but when i see a person play piano well it appears to be magic. and people who have really good pitch, how the f do they do that? and people who can draw? that is like weird sorcery, it is so impossible. those people are geniuses. i have friends that can identify musical notes from sound. how do they do that? their brains must be superpowered.

You mean it appears that they are religious? :hihi: :hihi:

The pitch thing just comes with time. After a while, it's kind of like hearing certain words. You know something is off-key similar to the way you know a word has been mispronounced.

120 is absolutely a high IQ for a student population. But not every student in the district has to be two standard deviations above the norm to qualify. Race and economic disadvantage come into play as well. Ten years ago, when I began teaching in Plano, there was a very small economically disadvantaged population, but that's changed over time.

Some of the schools in Plano have a higher standard IQ than others, depending on the area of the city where it's located. Plano, by the way, is a city of around 300,000.

The funny thing is that when I came to teach up here, there were students who were being tested for special education distinctions (two standard deviations BELOW the norm) who would've been in Beta Club at Springfield High, where I'd been teaching in Louisiana!

I had an 8th grade honors class last year at my school that had 30 students--20 of whom were classified in the genius range. They were SO much fun to teach--and some teachers are intimidated by genius children--but the thing is that they don't already know everything. And it's great fun to be able to point that out to them.

i can kinda tell when notes are wrong and off key. the thing that is really a miracle to me is when a person remembers a complicated tune and then can play it perfectly on an instrument. or when a person can draw/sculpt anything realistic. i cant even scuplt a worm from play-doh.
