The Dekes put something outrageous or vulgar or both on a sheet for every single opponent. They think they are the Animal House frat on campus. Most of them flunk out and return to become junior executives at their daddy's firm in Metairie. They've never really topped KA who think the Civil War never ended. They actually shot a bicyclist with their cannon.
When Bama played VT, a Bama fan told me a joke: What do Antarctica and Virginia Tech have in common? Both are -32 today. Awful.
Yeah, Red is right. The DKE's do something like that every game. To you people saying they should get reprimanded, granted it was in poor taste. However, isn't college a place to celebrate freedom of speech?
Yes but it also a place to learn limits and maturity. There should be a consequence for your actions good and bad. I believe much latitude should be given to kids in college and how they express themselves. For example, I'm much less bothered by the students singing vulgar lyrics to Tiger Rag & Neck than I am to something like this. IMO this went too far over the line and they should have some consequence.
And I'm on the other side of that one. While this was in very poor taste, it doesn't bother me as much as a couple thousand drunks yelling "suck that Tigers pee pee" when there are so many others around. I really don't want to explain to Hayden what they are saying and why? Better yet, I really don't want to have to answer him when he says "Hey dad, why doesn't the band play "neck" anymore, I really liked it when they played that. (we have a cd of all the cool songs and he makes me play it in my truck all the time). The sign is a sign, a poorly made one at that and it doesn't speak. If not for some jackass with a camera it would not have gotten near the attention that it already has.
Exactly. As I get older, this type of immaturity bothers me less and less. These guys will learn from it through feedback from others, not from sanctions from the University. Peer pressure at that age is a mighty form of influence. Pushing boundaries is as old as human life itself. A sign on a frat house that most will never see is far less intrusive than the student section being vulgar in unison. One sign versus 20,000 kids singing vulgarities on national tv. If the frat were sanctioned for the sign, should everyone in the student section be disciplined for being there when Neck was sung? I don't like either of the tasteless depictions discussed here, but again, Freedom of Speech. If ever there was a place to figure out what is right and wrong, it's at a university.
