Harry Reid was the nuclear option. When dems blocked Gorsuch they used that and it backfired on Reid. Merrick Garland was blocked by republicans and the Gorsuch seat was basically a stolen seat by McConnell and his ilk.

I think you're leaving out the part where Harry and the dems decided it was "manifest" that they do something back in 2013 to get Obama's judicial nominees pushed through... fully 3 yrs before gorsuch
Obama got 2 radicals confirmed during his tenure. Republicans objected a bit but did not go batshit like the libtard democrats did on Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas, especially Thomas. What they tried to do to Thomas was disgusting.
Like it or not, and I hated the delaying process (and I may have hated Obama’s nominee) The “reason” was next President, not next election. If next election was any kind of criteria, by anyone, Supreme Court dudes could ONLY be nominated every other year. That is too insane, even for Mitch.
