Many other schools have had clearinghouse issues. The only way to avoid them is to have your players totally qualified before they sign and that isn't always possible. Players with transcripts that are not in order and players who have to take summer semester courses to qualify are just not going to get their paperwork finished before August practice. If McKnight signs with LSU, he will have the same opportunity to play as Williams and Scott did this year. If he can get it all done, he will start. But college is different than high school. It may take him time to learn college defenses and to block and receive as well as run the ball. Justin Vincent gained 1,000 yards as a freshman, but he didn't start until mid-season. It is a rare freshman at any position who can step in and start on game one of his first year. But the good ones will see the field early and often.
The only way to avoid those clearinghouse issues would have been not to sign the guys who had them. Think that would have been a viable option since they were like the creme of the crop in Louisiana or in an area of biggest need(Loadholt)?
Taking the numbers posted a few posts up, here are the top rushers in terms of yards per carry (right-most column): Code: Back Carries Yards Yards Per Carry Scott 46 277 6.02 Williams 62 329 5.31 Hester 91 415 4.56 Broussard 74 281 3.80 Vincent 45 139 3.09 Russell 74 126 1.70
It was reported in the Advocate thatr he had a slight concussion earlier in the year, but I've seen nothing about Scott since then.
keiland should be getting the bulk of the carries in both halves and should have played from the start. you dont need extensive practice or to know a playbook to run a dive play. here's the football, run to the 2 hole. kinda simple. passing plays fine, bring in hester or jv to pick up the blitz. the same way trindon should have remained a returner even though he fumbled the first game with Buster on punts. Also, Scott should be the one spelling KW on running downs/situations as he has proven to be the 2nd most effective back. as alluded to above, its simply Lester's preferred method of rewarding the upper classmen which i dislike. the proof is in all the semi-disclosed phantom injuries of running backs then finding out later it was bs. Many times during his 2 year tenure he has done this when its obvious the stated injuries are much overblown yet the better backs didnt sniff the field. Always underclassmen so he could play the older guys except the one time he put Alley in timeout for threatening to quit the 10th time. I agree with tejas that les must adapt or outgrow this method or it may bite him in the ass again as it did in Auburn.
Agreed. LSU should use the pass to set up the run. No one can stop our passing attack. And when LSU does run, they need to run out of 3 and 4 wr sets. Im a big advocate of that. Actually, we did that a lot more in the Ark. game. On KW, he is our best back. He should get 20-25 touches a game. At any time he can hit the homerun with his speed. And if you notice, on the TD run at Ark., that was a run up the gut that KW kicked outside cause nothing was there. That shows vision and decisiveness. And he's only a freshman. KW has a bright future ahead of him.
Alley Broussard will be the feature back in '07. KW & CS will take a lot of snaps as well. We will have a brutal running game, especially if JR comes back.
this is the first post I remember of yours that addresses this RB situation (as well as Holliday). glad to see you're on the side of reality as well. welcome aboard.
