More seriously, Perrilloux, 20, was questioned last January by the federal authorities investigating a counterfeiting scheme near his hometown of LaPlace, outside New Orleans.
Perrilloux used a counterfeit $20 bill given to him by his brother to try to buy gasoline in November 2006, said Larry Dauterive, his high school coach. He was not arrested, however, or charged with a crime.
His lawyer, Nathan Fisher, said Perrilloux was seeking to enter a pretrial diversion program.
Jim Letten, the federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Louisiana, said he could not discuss the investigation. Perrilloux, though, appears to have been a peripheral figure. According to court records, his brother, Rance Scott, pleaded guilty last month to conspiracy to defraud the government by possessing $1,000 in counterfeit bills. Scott was sentenced to three years' probation and fined $500.
