I was around in the Cholly Mac era and this guy "ben around" is exagerating. Sure stuff happened but not much. me thinks he is a troll. from Gump a loossa no less.

If they didnt cause this and simply got beat up, Miles should handle it in house.

RP and Mr. Odum dont even need a curfew, they need to just stay on campus. Period. if they want to party and play ball they can go to Ole Miss or Miami. They need to look at the big picture here. the one D.Odum "thinks" he sees. it's the NFL and big money. this is the formula. work hard, talent, keep nose clean = make millions, sounds simple enough............. depending on your ability to make sound judgements. Like not have dog fights and be cruel to animals or constantly go out on the town partying where you can get involved perhaps in bad situations albeit by accident.

I am a firm believer in "this is preventable". if you are back at the dorm, studying, this doesnt happen.

and for all you who say/think... "hey everyone needs a break or good time, I was a college student once."

let me ask you, what was your major? the NFL? Ask Law students in their last two semesters ( the sucessful ones ) how much they got to party... answer.... not much.

RP and DO even at their tender young age, if they are any good would go Pro after their JR yr. So this means they are in the thick of "studying" and setting the example ( attitude ), in bringing their NFL stock UP.

SO if you are constantly in the WRONG limelight, even if by accident, it hurts your final grade.
Do it enough and it could be NO SOUP for you!

the problem these young athletes have is they get told how great they are and they figure they will get out of any kind of light trouble they get in, And while this may happen the FACTS are this, as great as RP is, there is some HS student at this very moment that is going to be as good or better than he is.
Athletes are a flash in the pan, limited by youth and the NFL knows this. They just cut you and move on to the next high paid hero out of college.

they arent a dime a dozen but they arent rare either.

Every once in a while a Farve or Elway surfaces, but not very often.
Everyone brags on their guy, he is the best QB out of HS the nation has to offer..... the stage rattles the crowd murmurs, but are Vince Young, RP, ELI Manning or several others (who was the guy from USC?) likely to have as good a career as Farve or Elway or Marino? possible but doubtful.

there you have it, Mr RP and DO. in a nut shell no matter where you play ball, you cant afford to let the crowd dictate your career. This might mean sitting the dance out.. no one said it was easy.

The latest, according to the 10:00 news on WAFB:

    • Police have received surveillance footage from behind the Varsity of a person believed to be Odom smashing the window of a Varsity employee.
    • WAFB showed a picture of Odom's Facebook status as "Derrick is sayin the fight dont end til u die BITCH." updated yesterday at 8:02 am.
    • Perrilloux's attorney is going on the offensive and saying that Ryan was a victim in the altercation, despite claims that Ryan was one of the aggressors. His attorney gave Perrilloux a polygraph test this morning and is pleased with the results, whatever that means.
    • Xavier Carter is quoted as saying that he was an innocent bystander in the altercation like many others that were there and is bothered that the mention of his name elevates this issue.
    • Les Miles is still expected to address the media tomorrow.

thats pretty good, if i was a football player i wouldn't have a facebook. Or if i did, i would make up some weird name and only those close to me would be able to know who i was.

No doubt. But here's the thing.

My job is to lead young adults about the age of these two, maybe a little older. I know a lot about these folks. If you don't hold them accountable, they won't do it for themselves. This is a leadership challenge - mostly for Miles and his staff. Bertman should step in as well.

Sorry, "Ben-Around" - you're dead wrong. It's not sanctimonious to demand standards of conduct from folks who want to become role models for our kids while making millions of dollars playing a game. It's hard work. It's good pay. I'd swap with them in a second if they got to fly 600 knots at 300 feet above the ground every now and then.....
