drug dealers are not dangerous because dealing with them is voluntary. how many times has a drug dealer forced you to do something?

if a drug deal goes bad and a drug dealer shoots you, then we are talking about a violent criminal, a different issue. i am talking about a person who simply sells drugs. drug dealers do not hurt people who do not want to be hurt. drug dealers do you not force you to take drugs, they just offer you a service that you may or may not use. they do not coerce you to do anything.

also if drugs were legal, there would be no violent drug deals gone bad, because you could just go buy your drugs at a normal store, instead of having to go to a sketchy backroom of a bodega in harlem like my friends have to.

violent criminals are scary. they could shoot you or steal your car and beat up your wife. a drug dealer is just a dude selling stuff to people who want it. if you dont want it, you have zero problems. drug dealers do not threaten me. the death pentaly is for people who do thing by force and violence, like kill. you shouldnt want the death penalty for people selling a product you do not want to buy. just dont buy it and you will be fine.

martin, your logic here scares law enforcement professionals (cops and d.a.'s) whose success is determined based on headcount and arrest rates. Please stop making sense.

Drug dealers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! They're scary people and probably don't attend PTA meetings, or even recycle OR vote Republican!

I understand the logic, but that's a real stretch. Drugs and violence, for the most part, go hand in hand unless you're talking about some mellowed out old pot dealer.

I do agree with Martin on one point though. I believe that the legalization of SOME (not all) drugs, like marijuana, would do more good than harm. If pot were legalized, we could probably wipe out the national debt within 20 years or less. But I don't think I could ever be convinced to legalize meth or crack. If an addict didn't have the money to purcahse from a clerk in a store, they'd just rob and/or kill for it just like they do now and you wouldn't see a signifcant decrease in violent crimes at all.
