I would have hoped that they would have upheld the states rights to interpret the law. The Supreme Court is a liberal joke lately. Juvenile Crimes will probably increase. At some point, a society's appointed interpreters of the law ( Justices ) have to respect the society's right to exist and do so with some reasonable expectation of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It has gotten to the point where juvenile crime in some areas is a much bigger threat than bin laden ever was. It would seem that our judicial system, in an effort to ensure the highest level of civility, has done just the opposite. Indeed, upon first examination it would appear a civilized society would not require juveniles face the death penalty. However, when society is threatened and juveniles themselves commit crimes to the point that they in fact threaten each other, who are we protecting by making these judicial rulings? Obviously, juveniles should only be given the death penalty when there is irrefutable evidence in the most heinous of crimes. It occurs to me that our judicial system is the last place an individual can receive justice for crimes committed against society. Justice should be issued based on guilt or innocence, not age, race, gender or political position or wealth. If society cannot issue justice to ALL individuals regardless of these things then the IN- justice is absorbed by the society as a whole. Therefore, we all suffer and the individual's rights are placed above the rights of the freedom of the entire society. This is a formula for the downfall of a society. JS
Your absolutely right - the second the effects me on a personal level I'll change my mind completely. I'll resort back to my most basic instintcs and want to torture the SOB that kills someone in my family. However, right now I'm fortunate enough to not have to deal with that. I'll still stick with my post, the death penalty doesn't do anything. It MAY give satisfaction to the family, but I'm not convinced of how much satisfaction somebody can really get from that. Life behind bars is less expensive and "correctable" in a sense.
The death penalty stops the tax payer from paying for somebody that should be exterminated. If the death penalty is more expensive than life in prison that is proof we have a problem with the system. For instance the couple in Fla. that tourtured those kids should be executed now. Or maybe floggging for a year then executed but no need to throw money away on these piece of crap people. These gang banggers need it also except no flogging just get it done. Serial rapeist removed from society pemenately. Maybe you see my direction. Also agree big time with our racing buddy. It's a state thing. :sob:
All the wonderful countries that execute for crimes committed under the age of 18: Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United States (before today) Supreme Court's not being liberal, they're just trying to drag the U.S. into the 20th Century of human rights.
I'll be damned, I agree with you 100% Martin........I would re-phrase #4, but that's being picky......
The Supreme Court's job is to interpret the Constitution...not to "drag the U.S. into the 20th Century" based upon their views on sociological issues. As is usual with this court, the dissenters got it right.
you're opinion only. typical liberal bullsh1t rhetoric. some of History's greatest most forward thinking societies used the death penalty. The "century" or time period itself holds no merit over "forward" thinking or "enlightenment". Man's social and moral issues are the same as they were in Roman times. Murder is still Murder, there are no new crimes on earth. Human right have varied from one society to another over time. The "time" period does not necessarily make man or society any smarter. WHY do liberals ALWAYS use that? Like for some reason as time goes on man should progress to some higher plane of thinking that hasn't already been acheived. that's ridiculous. That's like the saying that as a person get's older he will naturely become wiser? Hopefully, yes but not always. It's even less likey with a society as a whole. That's assuming your opinion actually IS more enlightened, which I happen to belive it is not. Time and moral value do not have a common denominator. A society and it's core beliefs make up what is allowed and dis allowed. Our's have slowly been eroding, as I eluded to in my earlier post.
If you know what you are doing and are old enough to pull the trigger... YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO FRY! :cuss:
