1. Jerry Sandusky was the Defensive coordinator for many years. The nickname "Linebacker U" was mostly attributed to him and his work with the defense. He was legendary in his own way with Penn State fans. Just like Paterno, he had his own flavor of ice cream named after him at the Penn State creamery. For many years, it was thought he would be JoePa's successor when Joe finally decided to retire.
This wasn't an isolated incident. He may have finally been caught in 2002, but it was probably going on for years. These are dirty, disgusting crimes we are talking about here. It's an embarrassment for the team, the program, and the university and it's fans.

Add the cover up +10 years, and you have a catastrophe.
  2. There is no crime worse than the rape of a child. None. This man murdered these young boy's innocence. These boys will never know what they couldve been without this happening to them. You know that this has to have negatively impacted their lives. This monster ruined these boy's lives. You only have one life and he ruined theirs.
  3. You are also a victim, as is the school itself. Penn State University and Nittany Lion fans have been unimaginably betrayed. I feel bad about Joe, but the guilty, are not the victims, cry for the children. Remember, It was school employees that committed the crimes, not the University.

The guilty should feel ashamed, humiliated, dirty, but Penn State fans have done no wrong. Anger is appropriate, roar at the mother phuckers, and let it out. I hope you can curse the criminals, and still support the institution that you've always loved.

    Hang tough man.

  4. Well said. Not that it will make anyone in PA feel better - but you are right.
I feel bad for the school but am horrified by what went on there. Of all the places in the world, Penn State would have been my last guess for something like this to occur.
  5. Penn .. have some faith dude.

    Here's my take on it.

Paterno reported the incident to the AD .. he reported that incident with the intention of further action being taken by the proper authorities of the University.

The REAL slime balls here, are these Schultz and Curley characters. THEY are the ones who concocted and executed the cover-up. It is not Paterno's responsibility to followup and investigate such incidents on a University. To do so could put himself in danger of dismissal if the allegations turned out to be false. ... AND THAT IS THE FACT OF THE MATTER ... Paterno had no way of knowing what was true and what was false. Paterno is no private investigator. It's not his job to run down the loose ends of crimes committed on campus. He does not have the authority to do so, nor does he have the skills to do so. His job was to report it. The followup to determine the validity of the claim resided soley on the shoulders of Curley and Schultz.

They did indeed follow up with the Grad Student, then comenced to sweep this whole thing under the rug. AND .. they are being indicted for their actions.

Large institutions, such as a University, have PROTOCOLS that must be followed with regards to interfacing with the authorities. Paterno was at no more liberty to run to the police than the Grad Student. .. and neither did. The Grad Student, as well as Paterno acted according to Protocol, and as a result, there are no charges being levied on Paterno or the Grad Student. In all likelyhood, Paterno reported it, and asked what do I need to do. Curley [Paterno's boss] probably told him not to do anything, that he would handle it.

IMO .. Paterno is getting a raw deal in the media, and in the arena of public opinon on this deal. He did what he was supposed to do. He REPORTED it to the Authority [this Curley guy] who was responsible for moving the case forward.

You say it feels like a death ... it seems like a wrongful death to me. Things are NEVER quite as simple as some people make them out to be. .... like .. why didn't Paterno just run to the State Police.

  6. Agreed. But like I said, even without the cover up....a well known member of the PSu family committed these terrible crimes, some of which were committed on PSU's campus. It's hard to just get past that.
  7. oh so Paterno passes it off, they do nothing about it, Joe knows his ole buddy Sandusky is within earshot in the building across the street for 9 more years after the incident and thinks "oh well that seemed to turn out ok"

    Phuck that.

Paterno is just as guilty as anyone. He is not holier than thou.

And don't give me "oh well Joe didn't really know what actually transpired".
  8. yeah .. right issy .. .I'm sure Sandusky told Joe all about it. "Hey Joe .. guess what I did last night ..." ... or Joe Ask ... "D'you do this??" .. Sandusky .. "Sure I did Joe .. been doing it for years".

Or better yet ... I bet ol Curly and Schultz called ol Joe in and said .. "hey ... uh look Joe ... we interviewed the kid ... and ... well, we just need to sweep this thing under the rug ..ya know" .... and Joe said . "ok .. sure".

Or even better.... Joe reports it and Mo, Larry and Currly told Joe ... well .. Joe ..if you bring us some real proof, then we'll listen to what ya got to say ... till then, we ain't hearin' it".

Like I said .. Joe did what he was supposed to do. Joe followed protocol.

What's so fricken amazing to me .. it almost seems this whole media frenzie has become more about Joe than about Sundusky, Curly and Schultz.

Yeah yeah .. Sandusky abused some kids, and this Curly and Schultz guy covered it up ... BUT THE BIG NEWS IS .. Paterno didn't report it to the state police.

    String him up boys.
  9. Not sure what your point is here.

Joe Paterno IS Penn State football.

His "bosses" were that in title only.

    He followed protocol, sure.

But by not following up he showed a moral fault.

And let a molester go unpunished for NINE YEARS.

I'm sure you wouldn't feel the same way if that 10 year old was a relative of yours.

OR a relative of yours was abused by Sandusky since that incident.

JoePa made his bed by protecting his friend the way he did.

Tonight, he's gonna hafta sleep in it.

Only time will tell if he will first be remembered as a great football coach.
  10. dick.
