I like to see the bomb: On 2nd and 1 On the 1st play after a turnover On the last play of the game when we're 6 down. I don't like it: On a normal 1st and 10. Then, it's 2 downs to make 10 yards on 3rd and less than 6 yards to go. Run 7 yard routes and pick up the 1st. When we're up 49-0, unless we're playing Auburn.
I like to see one or two early in the game. It tells the DB that our WRs can run right by them, even if it's not completed. That may make the DBs play a little softer and open up the underneath routes. And I'll add one more to your list ... 1st and 10 inside our own 10 yard line.
we really dont use the intermediate passing game thta much other than deep outs... we rarely use the middle of the field.. that is where you want to get the ball to athletic recievers who can make someone miss then take it to the house..
No No Noooooo. Then we wouldn't have had the 91 yard rive vs ASU, the 50 yard drive to end the game vs Moo U, the 99 yard rive vs NTSU. And we wouln't have gotten a few other drives out past the 20 or 30 and reversed that bad field position somewhat. I like the way we have been playing near our own goal line, let's keep trying to make positive plays instead of gambling on a pass we have about a 10% chance of completing at best, unless there is a break down in coverage.
It doesn't mean you do it every time you are inside your own 10 ... you gotta pick your spots. And just b/c you don't complete it doesn't mean your drive won't be successful. Aggressive offensive coaches like to take a shot downfield on their goal line in certain situations. And we wouldn't have seen a fake punt on our first possession of the year if we would have thrown it successfully downfield! :hihi:
maybe the playcalling wasnt different. flynn had 7 passes in just over a quarter and russell had 21 in under 3 quarters. now you could do an analysis of what type of routes the WRs took, but on the surface it just looks like flynn was more successful with similar playcalling. (this doesnt necessarily mean flynn is a better qb.)
For the record, 8 of JaMarcus' 17 completions against North Texas were for 15 or more yards, and they were all downfield. Included are pass plays of 29, 29, and 41 yards to Davis, Bowe, and Davis respectively. Additionally, 3 of JaMarcus' completions ended with tackles inside the 4 yard line (4, 3, and 1), setting up easy TD rushes the next play. How would his play have been perceived had those 3 pass plays ended in TDs? His stats would have been 17 for 21, 252 yards (i.e. 8 more yards) and 4 TDs.
Were there any drops by the receivers? Maybe we should give JR credit for a couple more completions too. :yelwink2:
