This season will be an extended workout session for Culpepper in the hopes and landing a team for next year.
Well, the Chargers carried both Brees and Rivers for two seasons. When Brees and Flutie led the Chargers to a 4-12 season and the Chargers picked Rivers, the expectation that Brees would not remain as the starter very long. Instead, Rivers held out for most of the training camp, and Brees kept his job and shocked everybody by how well he did that season and the Chargers resigned Brees. The Chargers had invested serious money into Rivers, but they also designated Brees as a franchise player and had to pay him accordingly. Who knows? Maybe, such a scenario would be the best for Bama Boy, especially if he misses most of training camp, and he'll need that extra time to learn how to operate a west coast offense.
Right. For TWO seasons, which still wouldn't be a bad thing for JR. The Chargers couldn't afford to pay both guys into the third year, but they were able to groom Rivers for an extra year. That's a win-win for all involved.
Signing Culpepper is good for Oakland and Russell. Now Davis needs to get off his butt and sign his first round pick.:geauxtige
I have to agree with that. Bama Boy is going to need as much time and help as he can to learn to be a QB. That's why I would have chosen a more NFL-ready QB.
   Yeah, too bad YOUR boy wasn't available for them to pick. Wait...he was...in fact he was available for nearly EVERYONE to pick...and the team that DID pick him used the SECOND pick they had on him!:hihi:
