Any chance Hatch had at getting a starting job has certainly disappeared with the play by JJ today. Add with Shepard as a dual threat QB and there really is no need for Hatch to stay on the team.

He's older and obviously has plans to move on with his life.

He very well may forego next season, leaving another schollie to someone else.

Only sick mo-fos were happy to see Lee limp off. But let's face it. He's just not a good recruit. Good kid, maybe. Bad recruit. It happens.

I tried to tell you all in the recruiting thread he was better than Perrilloux was when Perrilloux was in high school and a true freshman.

But people don't listen to me, even though they haven't been to a practice . . . ever, to see him play. :)

But yeah, seriously, all foolishness aside, he will be a good one here.

Yeah that's why I had to give a shout out to you.

I never forget stuff like that. People mocked you when you said what you said.

This kid has at least as strong an arm as Perrilloux and probably stronger. He's like Russell when we complained he throws the ball too hard and needs to learn to take a little off of it when he doesn't have to thread the needle. We saw that on the field tonite.

Running wise, I don't think Perrilloux would have given us more of an advantage. Perrilloux never looked 4.4 like speed to me when he ran. Jefferson just goes in a straight line and looks much faster than his 4.6 speed. I am more than satisfied with Jefferson's running ability. Definite dual threat. And we can run the option. Another weapon.

People people look at arbitrary stuff like Rivals' stars and don't make decisions on their own. They saw Perrilloux's 5 stars and Jefferson's 4 and called it check-mate. But I appreciate giving me the love for one of the rare times that I earned it. :hihi:

What it's all about is I think Jefferson understands who he is moreso than Perrilloux does/did.

Jefferson imo knows that if the throw isn't there, then look to run it.

He understands that a scramble of 2 yards is better than throwing a pass you have a 15% chance of completing.

I think Ryan Perrilloux's insane confidence in his own abilities is his worst enemy. He has like 15 INT's at Jacksonville State for that reason -- he thinks he can always fit the ball into the tiny spot.

That's just not what LSU needs.

But in terms of arm strength in terms of throwing the ball farther, Perrilloux wins.

In terms of velocity, Jefferson wins.

    And for speed, Jefferson wins.
But in terms of breaking tackles and stuff, I think Perrilloux wins.

Jefferson is more like JaMarcus in that when he gets rolling down hill, it's harder for him to change directions, etc...

I guess the most important thing for now is that Jefferson misses in the right places.

The problem with Lee is not that he misses. HE just misses in the worst possible spot everytime.

Jefferson's bad throws were always well overthrown, etc... to where no one could catch them.

    Great point here.

I do agree Perrilloux was big and strong. Jefferson hopefully can add on about 10 more pounds of muscle heading into the 09 campaign.

I agree, I think JJ shows a lot of promise. Based on raw ability alone JJ is head and shoulders better than both QBs that started this year and our coaching staff evidently either couldn't recognize it or didn't want to admit it for some reason. The problem I have, looking down the road (2009 season), we again start spring practice just about where we started this season. QBs WITH NO EXPERIENCE! Early on this season JJ should have gotten significant PT in those "gimmy games". I think this coaching staff has LSU behind the 8 ball to start the 2009 campaign because of how this season played out.

But it's not just the QB position that is problamatic, this years D is terrible. No pressure on the QB, CB's playing 10 yards off the line, and line backers no where to be found. I don't think its the defensive players inability to play good defense, its the scheme they are forced to play. No bump or pressure by the CB's on the receivers off the line. Consequently the QB's timing is not off and he is able to get the ball off on time. The pass rush doesn't have time to get pressure on the QB. I think this is all on the coaching staff. These guys have played their a**es off and I feel sorry for the seniors.

I think JJ played pretty good last night.

His stats for the game were 10/20 for 50%. 129 yards. 1 TD, 1 INT. He also ran 10 times for 23 yards. This includes 1 run for 20 yards.

Interesting thing was JJ's INT looked eerily similiar to Lee's INT in the Bama game. Both balls hit the WR in the hands, both balls slipped out and popped up in the air, both balls ended up DB's hands with running room to spare. Difference is the offense tackled the DB when JJ threw the INT. When he threw it, I was bracing because I just KNEW the DB was going to run it back for a TD and then I'm sure everyone in the stadium would have started booing.

JJ looked good, but I think it was evident that he doesn't know the playbook good enough and that's what Miles was talking about when he said JJ wasn't ready.

It looks like JJ will definitely be fighting for the starting job come this spring, and depending on the extent of Lee's injury he might get to start for the rest of this season.

I am not however ready to appoint him as the heir apparent yet. When JJ was playing good it looks like he gets fired up, and I like his emotion. But that's when he's playing good. When he threw that INT on the sideline it looked like he wanted to cry and while some of you might not like the glazed over look of Lee, I'm a bit worried that JJ is more emotional and that might not be good in a come back situation where QB's need to put behind them what they did bad last series.

I do know this however, whoever wins the QB job this spring will be BETTER than our starting QB this year. I honestly don't care which QB wins it, Lee, JJ, Shep, Garrett. Doesn't matter to me, but I do feel as if this season was all about getting them ready for next. The SEC will be a much different place next year. Bama starts a new QB with no experience, if Tebow goes pro then Florida will start a new QB. Auburn in turmoil, Tennessee in turmoil, if Stafford goes pro Georgia will start a new QB.

Next year has the makings of being a much better situation for the tigers to come into. With Shep coming in early, it will definitely be a battle in the offseason. The only person I would write off at this point is Hatch. I think his time is done starting at LSU. Shame, but at least he can say later in life "I started for LSU." I hope he enjoys his free scholarship. He fought well and did the best with his chance.

What really impressed me about JJ yesterday is how he completed several passes in the middle of the field. This is an area that has been taken completely out of LSU's arsenal. He also showed the ability to think on his feet (i.e not stare down one reciever, throw it away when noone is open or run if the situation warrants). For a person with practically no game experience and supposedly isn't ready, I thought he looked like a leader out there.

I really feel bad for Lee because I know he's giving it his best shot but at this point in the season with this many games under his belt he should be more comfortable and certainly more consistent. He may know the playbook better than JJ but...what good is that if you cannot complete a screen pass, a hitch to the WR and so on and so fourth. He did throw a couple nice long balls yesterday that were dropped. However those are low percentage passes for an accurate QB. Without a short consistent passing game and a few long balls sprinkled in it becomes almost impossible to run as well.

Back to Jefferson...I was impressed and feel very encouraged by what i saw yesterday. I'm not ready to anoint him as the soliution to all LSU's problems just yet but...he definately looks like a major step in the right direction. Sure he'll make some bonehead mistakes (most freshmen do) but let's see what he's got the rest of this year. To me he's already shown improvement from last weeks game. Just my 2 cents..:geaux::crystal::crystal::crystal:

    He made some mistakes.

    Sailed two of his passes.

Took the sack to end the half instead of throwing the ball away to save clock.

Other than that I think he did everything as good as can be expected. You could see him go through his progressions on two of his passes. Most of the others were quick hitters that he threw very nicely. He threw the ball away when he needed too, and took the one sack when he should have.

He got little help from the Oline, who may have played their worst game in 4 years, and had a few drops from the receivers. Byrd made a really nice catch to help him out on the tipped ball, and The tall ball to Toliver was something I think we can look forward to seeing the next two years. Very few DB's are going to be able to get up there and defend that play.

He has a ways to go, but mentally I would say it was fairly easy to see that he is miles ahead of where we were told he was.
