Get real, USuCk HAS to go out of conference just to play a better than mediocre team. Everyone with half a brain knows if you go undefeated in the SEC and SECCG (that's a conference championship game for you PAC 10 sissies) that you are one of the best teams in the nation. The same can not be said about most other conferences. Could you imagine what any SEC teams win /loss record would be if the toughest team they played every year was Cal. :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis:
I guess it just cheeses me that someone (who I never heard of) in the national media is giving credence to the argument that OOC schedule is the most important consideration when judging a team's schedule. Refusal to play such big games is alleged to indicate an admission of weakness/fear. Nevermind that by most objective measures the average SEC schedule far outweighs any PAC10 SOS, despite them playing some OOC "name teams" that are actually middle of the road (i.e. NOT top 25). It's blatant politiking for the Pac10, with a little yankee superiority thrown in for good measure.
So he makes fun of Auburn for playing Tech at home? Guess he forget we played AT tech in 2003. He makes fun of LSU for playing Arizona St. at home...guess he forgot you guys are going to Arizona St. in a few years. Guess he forgot you guys played at VA Tech in 2002. Neglects to mention Auburn when TO Southern Cal in 2002. Tennesee is going to Notre Dame. UGA has already signed on to play AT Colorado. (The Big 12 North defending champs, who beating them is apparently tougher than beating Tenn in our conference championship game) Alabama played AT Oklahoma, and AT UCLA a couple years ago. DAMn, can u tell i don't like it when writers don't do their hw??
Why all the emphasis on 3 OOC games while ignoring the 8 SEC games? Wasn't it just two years ago that the weakness of the PAC-10 CONFERENCE GAMES cost USC a shot at a national title? During that same friggin' year wasn't LSU's OOC supposedly weak? Didn't LSU still outpoint USC in strength of schedule even though LSU received no credit for beating #5 UGA in the SEC Title Game? Wasn't one of the weak-ass OOC games LSU played in 2003 against a PAC-10 Arizona team? Wasn't that game against Arizona played in Tuscon? Wasn't that game USC played against that same weak Arizona team a CONFERENCE GAME for them? The OOC thing is just the media attempting to find something negative about the SEC. To focus on a 3 game OOC schedule of SEC teams while ignoring the 8 game conference slate and a potential SEC Title game tacked on as well is simply choosing to be unrealistic.
He also failed to say/realize that games between top programs from different conferences are scheduled seasons in advance. When we scheduled to play Arizona AT Arizona, that game was scheduled long before the Wildcat football team hit the crapper. Auburn played USC in Los Angeles just a few seasons ago..
I'm not sure when the games were scheduled (I think after the '98 season), but here are the end-of-year rankings for AZ from 1994 on: 1994 finished 20th in both polls 1998 finished 4th in both polls no other ranked finishes "flash in the pan"
:hihi: Be happy he forgot to mention this. That is part of the reason you were in the Sugar Bowl last year.
I think it was the years right around 1988, they had a very good defense nicknamed the Desert Swarm. I do think they finished in the top 5.
yeah there was some unknown dude named teddy bruschi leading that team. :hihi: :hihi: i think it was mid to early 90's. dick tomey was the mastermind. didnt he take some wac job recently?
