John Brady developed Brandon Bass so quick, he's leaving!

Any team taking him in the top 20 would be gambling with someone unproven.
There is no doubt he has a big upside but he has a way to go.

He wasn't dominate enough to be a top pick like Carmelo Anthony was.

    C. Anthony was a #2 pick, there is a HUGE difference between #2 and #20. Anthony was picked to lead a dismal franchise out of a decade long slide. At #20, you pick talent you can develop and not players who will have an immediate impact - those players are drafted 1-10...

I understand this but are you telling me in all of college basketball there aren't 20 to 30 kids better than Brandon right now?

I would bet there are and he won't be taken in the top 20 in the draft.
He just wasn't good enough last year.

I understand your point, and yes there are 20 - 30 kids who may go before him, but quite often teams who need less immediate impact will look at a kid who they can develop for contribution down the line...

My point is this, Brandon Bass at #20 - #25 may not be a steal at this very moment. However, Brandon Bass at #20 - #25 may be a remarkable "steal" for a team that will never have a chance to draft high enough to get him the following year. Raw talent may put him on the bench of a team like Dallas, Portland, New Jersey, L.A., Sacramento, Detroit or Minnesota...

The question is, how do teams know that he has that "potential upside"? They don't, not at this point at least. He wasn't THAT impressive this past season. There are a lot of people that don't even know who Bass is. I believe that there will be more sound picks to choose from in the first 20 picks. We as LSU fans would like to think he would get recognized as having lots of potential, but the reality is, we don't know what actual potential he has. After just one season, I wasn't even so sure that he would be as dominate as everyone expected him to be. He's not top 20 material.

But how often do these kids, that you speak of, only have one year of, less than spectacular, college play. Please provide us with names of kids that you know that have been picked without even proving they're capable of playing in the NBA.

Firstly, never doubt me in front of the forum ever again - the bad karma will easily destroy your social life...

Here are names of players who proved very little against fomidable competition prior to being drafted into the NBA. I feel that Bass is better than all of these players and has proven more against better competition.

    1996:
    #20-Zydrunas Ilgauskas - No College
    #25-Martin Muursepp - No College

    1997:
#18-Chris Anstey - Was a tennis player 4 years before the draft and averaged 11 ppg

    1998:
    #25-Al Harington - No College

    1999:
    #20-Dion Glover - 1 Yr. College

    2000:
    #22-Donnell Harvey - 1 Yr. College 10 ppg

    2001:
    #25-Gerald Wallace - 1 Yr. College 9.8 ppg

    2002:
#21-Qyntel Woods - Community College - No College
    #24-Nenad Krstic - No College

    2003:
    #21-Boris Diaw - No College - 5 ppg / 4 rpg
    #23-Travis Outlaw - No College

    2004: ?????????

It could happen - the price is wrong, bitch...

    Umm...That's incorrect...

Carmelo Anthony went to Denver with the third overall pick in last year's draft...Darko Millicic went #2, to Detroit, who promptly didn't play him for more than 5-6 minutes per game...But then again, Larry Brown has NEVER played rookies in prominent positions.

That's basically making an argument for anyone who says Bass shouldn't test the waters. Who the hell heard of this guy? They all said he was light years compared to foreign players like Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker, and Hedo Torkoglu...But he's been riding the pine...

I think that Bass has shown that he's at LEAST able to compete against the likes of the top high schoolers this year, and I think that's enough. This draft is light on college talent, if you ask me. He's got a good chance, and I honestly don't hold anything against him. Trust me when I say this...SabanFan will be the last rat to desert this sinking ship...

Agree with TE, bass can definitely compete on the next level in a couple yrs he can be another McDyess or someone on that level. If a team thinks that, he is gone rd 1.
