I can't speak for Rwilliams but I'm afraid of what Obama would do with the money.

How? Because I would rather rich people pay more taxes than seniors getting their benefits cut and depleting education funding? I pay taxes, I don't receive sh!t from the government.

The crazy part about this, is that the majority of Americans agree with me. Just not this direct representation of a red state forum.

Americans agree, rich people should pay higher taxes - Apr. 22, 2011

because taking money from billionaires hurts everyone. mostly the poor. biolionaires will be ok they will still have money. but the poor people who could have had a job building the billionaire's third yacht are screwed.

it doesnt matter who pays the taxes. it is bad to take money from the economy and give it to the government. you should only do it when you really really really have to, for something really really important.

My thing is, if you want to make cuts on entitlements, then raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans also, and cut defense. EVERYONE should shoulder this, not just the 98% of Americans who only account for about 2% of the wealth of this country. Now you can come back and say that they already pay alot of taxes, well, they also benefit way more than anyone else in this country, so they should pay way more.

The wealthiest people in America have prospered greatly over the past 10 years, and if low taxes means jobs, where are the f'n jobs? Taxes have been the lowest they have been in 50 years, where are the jobs?

make cuts to entitlements, raise taxes on the top 2%, stop giving out subsidies to oil companies and farmers, make cuts in defense, eliminate the DEA (that would kill a bunch of government jobs, you know those horrible government workers who are a drain on society) legalize drugs, and tax them. I would also make it harder for people to receive benefits, especially those who are able to work.

This is an Obama thing and it makes no sense to keep on saying the same thing over and over. To ingnoramuses it sounds good because it appears that the "rich" are getting away with something. The "rich" pay far more than anyone else and our problems should not be laid at their feet. Government fked this economy up and Government needs to get the hell out of the way and let the economy fix itself.

the rich benefit more from government? how so?

bush and obama are spending so much it is hurting private sector job creation. also taxes still. way too high. and the governemnt is trying to ruin the economy by using tax money to bail out failed business, which encourages irresponsible behavior. we would better off if the government had a lot less of the rich people's money. let the rich bail out their own businesses.

sounds good except for the raising taxes on the top 2%. raising taxes on anyone is bad. again, it doesnt matter who pays the taxes. ultimately the poor are the ones that suffer.

Brother it's not about letting old people starve. We all agree that old and disabled people need to be taken care of. The American government was never intended to be daddy. Government is meant to give everyone the oppertunity to succeed. Everyone has a chance to soar but everyone also has the chance to fail. It's not governments job to garantee anyone anything other than a fair oppertunity. Take Detroit for an example. Detroit once was a crown jewel in Americas crown. Detroit has been run by democrats for thirty years. Detroit is a cess pool now. The entitlement mindset has caused generations to be under government support and the people have lost all hope and have made no progress. The unions have all but destroyed the cities main industry - auto manufacturing. Take California for another example. It's the worlds eighth largest economy. It's asking for a government bailout because they have spent money on every feel good program you could imagine. This is where our country is heading. We are going bankrupt. If we don't stop the bleeding there won't be a country left. It's not right to take one mans hard earned money and give it away to others. Everyone must carry their weight but everyone doesn't. There is almost half the country that pays nothing. We give money away like it's nothing. It's not governments job to support you. It's not governments job to feed your kids or pay your medical bills or pay your rent. Government has become too many things it wasn't ever suppose to be. It must get back to basics. That's what we are saying. No amount of taxing the rich will help until government knows it's roll and stops the generational dependentcy that has sucked the well dry.
