Yes, JJ is still in college. Yes, JJ will still make mistakes from time to time. The only way to silence your critics is to come out and play well. If he doesn't have perfect stats, but was an effective leader and looked smooth and efficient, a lot of critics will not be as loud. Asking them to be patient, though, just comes across as whiny.
Aside from not being able to read the field and make a good pass in 3 seconds, Jefferson is also not a great speaker. Which I dont understand because as the QB/Captain/Leader of a team, especially an SEC team - you should know how to speak with confidence. I first leanred of his horrible interviewing before last years UF game. & every interview there after....its always: "ya, they fast, and we needs to just keep lookin at the film, go back to the film room and see whats we needs to do to beat them" "ya, they corners got a lot of speed, and they good. I believe in coach, and we gonna go back to the film room and look ats the tapes, and we gonna be ok" ESPN Reporter: "Well Thank You Jordan and best of luck to you on saturday" Jefferson: "Aw-ight" I wouldnt put too much stock into what he told the NOLA because I dont think he was "telling" us to be patient, I just think it was JJ's way of letting us know he knows he stunk it up, hasnt showed any improvements and he knows what happens to QB's around here who can't get it done. - He was the most popular player on the team in '08 - Remember!! IM GOING TO GIVE HIM ONE MORE GAME - ONE MORE GAME JJ! - THIS IS IT BUDDY! -
You are absolutely right! We are not asking him to be Heisman candidate, we are just asking him to really do 2 things and them efficiently 1) - Follow the game plan, take what the defense gives you and show that we can move the ball through the air effectively to support our running game and give our defense a breather. 2) - When needed, on 3rd & short, or anytime we need a play, MAKE ONE! You don’t have to put up 400 yds passing on 4 tds & avg. 2 or more 20+ yds on scrambles a game! Just follow the game plan, check your reads and deliver an accurate pass. Its what you have been doing since decided to play QB in HS.
You can't read too much into these things. I have no doubt every one of them wants to do the best they can. Playing for LSU, especially QB, is pressure filled. Some guys rise to the occasion and some don't. Hopefully JJ will but if not I just hope coach Miles does what needs to be done and give JL a shot. One of the biggest differences I see in successful coaches and the ones that plod along is that the successful ones make decisive decisions and aren't afraid to change what isn't working. The thought of fans booing if Jefferson plays poorly makes me uncomfortable.
I want Jordan Jefferson to be realistic. He is what is keeping this team from being a great team. Yes he is young, but this is his 3rd year in this offense, and he is making freshman mistakes. We have seen flashes of a good quarterback, but we haven't seen any consistent progression from him. We are LSU. We don't lose to Ole Miss 2 years in a row. Does he realize that? Maybe he should realize how to get rid of a football. Man i tell you what, i didn't need to read that. I agree with the original poster, i think he is fragile right now. As much as J Lee screwed up, did you ever hear him say anything like that? Jordan, if you suck, you are going to hear it. So it's simple, don't suck. Don't boo in the stadium though.
The kid is on trial right now and he knows it. He has 2 options, step up, or sit down. Personally I feel (This may be my heart talking) that Jefferson is going to step up, rise to the challenge, have a big night, and throw TF for a loop on next weeks chatter!
With Matt Flynn, the stats were not spectacular, averaging somewhere between 150-180 yards a game. But he came through when was needed and proved to be an effective manager of the offense and a good leader. JJ needs to understand how to do that if he wants people to stop criticizing him. They always will complain, but I think people forgive a lot more if you look and act like a leader of the offense. Booing him on game day is tacky though
