JJ didn't win the Tennessee game or the Florida game. JLee did. The 2 QB system isn't working, it's just an "improvement" over how god awful it was when only JJ started. JLee has won the last 2 games for Miles and LSU. I don't care how much game film they watch or how long they spend with the QB's, production on the field is all that matters. With JJ leading the offense in the past 2 games he's lead our team to: 2 FG, 1 TD, 3 Punts, 3 INT. 1 drive where JJ's pass was caught and fumbled, didn't count. With JLee leading the offense in the past 2 games he's lead our team to: 1 FG, 5 TD, 4 Punts, 1 INT. 1 FG attempt that was missed that JLee had QB'd the drive, didn't count. The numbers are clear. JLee comes in and produces scores. The only reason Miles isn't making the switch is out of loyalty because when you look at stats and "game film" they both show a very CLEAR advantage to JLee. Want to see how you should handle a QB situation? Look at Philly Eagles. Even though they give Kolb the starting QB position to begin the year, when it was clear that Vick was playing better, they made the switch for the good of the team. Miles insistence to be loyal to JJ over being loyal to the team (and starting the better player at the position) is really quiet shocking. Lee should be rewarded for all he's done, instead of Miles trying to pacify JJ's psyche. How can you ask the BACK UP QB to come into the game when it's on the line and lead you're team to victory when the starting QB is perfectly healthy? If you don't have faith in JJ be able to lead your team when the game is on the line, why should he be allowed to lead the team at all? Miles pandering around the issue of benching JJ could end up hurting LSU if JLee doesn't get enough snaps in the upcoming game.
Very fair post. I'm not scared, in fact I'm a HUGE fan of Lee(who will get a shot in the NFL)because of his quick reads, and release. Our offense would be as great as our defense should General Lee (couldn't resist, he he he) take completely over. When rationale is made to play JJ, it's ALL about JJ, and him running the football. When the discussion turns to Lee, it's about him being able to incorporate the other great Tigers in this offense that Jefferson simply cannot do. As far as the quote button goes, I'm usually not interested in quoting the entire post. But will when need be.
And I totally agree with that. Honestly, if it were me, I would use Shepard instead of Jefferson for situational option plays. But, that's a pipe dream. And if Les wants to use JJ in those situations, i don't have a problem with it. The one thing I would like to see, is Lee coming in on 3rd and long when Jefferson starts drives. It seems that the staff is willing to put in JJ to cap off Lee drives, but not willing to bring in Lee in situations where he is way more valuable than Jefferson, 3rd and long, 2nd and miles. I like the 2 qb system, I would like it alot more if it were Lee and Shep, but I will take what I can get at this point. Just win.
StaceyO nailed it on page 1. We're on page 4 of this thread -- unbelievable. Miles knows who has the hot hand. (JL) JJ knows who has the hot hand. (JL) JL knows who has the hot hand. (JL) ESPN knows who has the hot hand. (JL) There is a good reason for this and one we may not need to know. Did anyone see this next statement by Miles? Miles said it helps both quarterbacks to study what the defense does while they are waiting on the sideline. "I think there's a point and time where there's a nice time to take a pause and get some information," Miles said. Just maybe the Hat, who does not think like most of us do, thinks he wants his hot-hand QB to get a chance to chill for a minute, soak it up and then go tear it up. Starting is an ego thing if you end up getting significant PT. This should be about what's best for the team, not what's in JL's best interest. I trust Miles in this one. One more thought -- I don't want the McNeese game to be close, but I don't want to lose JL to injury against a non-conf supposed "rent-a-win". We need him more than we need JJ. :geaux:
I don't like that at all. You're basically asking a cold QB to come in and make a play on an obvious passing down. That's just looking for trouble as far as I'm concerned. If we can't trust JJ to make a pass to keep the drive alive, why is he our starting QB?
Adding to that, you can say Jefferson stunk against Florida, and he was by no means stellar, but he improved. Maybe, just maybe, this competition is helping both quarterbacks get better, because there was obviously no competition for the quarterback job until after the Tennessee game.
