red ,let me help you out since you must not be able to read far enough into their website to find james cone or black liberation theology...at the bottom of the page ...where it says click here...

Click here to read about Dr. Wright’s talking points for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System.

Dr. Wright’s talking points (3.1.7) for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System (in response to Erik Rush’s comments (2.28.07) on the Hannity and Colmes show):
    • One of the biggest gaps in knowledge that causes the kind of ignorance that you hear spouted by this man [Erik Rush] and those like him, has to do with the fact that these persons are completely ignorant when it comes to the Black religious tradition. The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology.
    • Black theology is one of the many theologies in the Americas that became popular during the liberation theology movement. They include Hispanic theology, Native American theology, Asian theology and Womanist theology.
    • I use the word “systematized” because Black liberation theology was in existence long before Dr. Cone’s book. It originates in the days of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. It was systematized and published by theologians, Old Testament scholars, New Testament scholars, ethicists, church historians, and historians of religion such as Dr. James Cone, Dr. Cain Hope Felder, Dr. Gayraud Wilmore, Dr. Jacqueline Grant, Dr. Kelley Brown Douglas, Dr. Renita Weems, Dr. Katie Cannon, Dr. Dwight Hopkins, Dr. Linda Thomas, and Dr. Randall Bailey.
    • These scholars, who write in various disciplines, also include seminary presidents like Dr. John Kinney and professors of Hebrew Bible, like Dr. Jerome Ross. Black liberation theology defines Africans and African Americans as subjects – not the objects which colonizers and oppressors have consistently defined “others” as.
    • We [African Americans] were always seen as objects. When we started defining ourselves, it scared those who try to control others by naming them and defining them for them; Oppressors do not like “others” defining themselves.
    • To have a church whose theological perspective starts from the vantage point of Black liberation theology being its center, is not to say that African or African American people are superior to any one else.
    • African-centered thought, unlike Eurocentrism, does not assume superiority and look at everyone else as being inferior.
    • There is more than one center from which to view the world. In the words of Dr. Janice Hale, “Difference does not mean deficience.” It is from this vantage point that Black liberation theology speaks.
    • Systematized Black liberation theology is 40 years old. Scholars of African and African American religious history show that Black liberation theology, however, has been in existence for 400 years. It is found in the songs, the sermons, the testimonies and the oral literature of Africans throughout the Diaspora.

Now ,has you can see James Cone is mentioned has being the beginning of the Vision statement of Trinity United...and black liberation theology is what is taught there as doctrine.

As far as the marxist leanings...google black liberation theology and james cone...

Oh, I can Google up Marxism but I don't find Obama there. You said that Obama should have been able to tell from the Church statement that you posted that the church was racist and marxist. Therefore he must be racist and Marxist. Only it doesn't say that.

I'm not defending Wright, the guy is a kook. I'm defending Obama (or anyone) of guilt by association. You still haven't indicated what Obama himself has actually said or done that is racist or Marxist. That's what I'm getting at.

Red, according to your thought process a person could got to an Islamist jihad church for twenty years and not believe in jihad

a mormon could go to a mormon church for twenty years and not believe that joseph smith was a prohet of god.

a "born again christian " could go to a "born again" christian church, and not believe in being born again.

obama can go to a "black liberation theology "church for 20 years and not believe "black liberation theology" atheological concept based on marxist principles.

why not? i went to a church/certain demonination for over 20 years and didnt believe much of what was preached. and towards the end of that time when i grew and changed, i realized there was very little of what was preached that fit my values. so i quit that church.

    just saying, it is possible.

now on the topic of jindal/veep. it is my belief that for the most part, for the presidential candidates to link themselves to the party's favorite son/flavor of the month in any state, they are gaining positive press and currying favor with the party faithful. i think that you will see this with a lot of "veep hopefuls" not so much because they are under serious consideration, but to curry favor with the voters in that state.

that is all. back to red and kedo.

exactly. and jindal knows he is the hot (r) politician and can learn a lot on the next four years. he already has the national party's support and will sit and build a nice resume to help with any future endeavors he chooses to partake in.

I find this hard to believe unless you were a child while going to this church.

somewhat when i started. but well into adulthood when i decided that i just could not justify staying with the church. that the beliefs were too conflicting.

but i was not the only one that changed. the church also changed. they went one way and i went the other in directions.

I gotta think this is slightly different as Obama was an adult when he joined the church. Could the message have changed? Sure, but the timing certainly is suspicious. I was actually excited about Obama's fresh perspective before finding out about this, but now I'm definitely concerned. Anyone who would listen to the rants of that crazy man and call him his spiritual leader makes me nervous.

Okie, many people leave churches they grew up in when they get older. But the majority of adults that pick a church and wind up going there for twenty years believe at the very least the core principles of that church.

If you decide as an adult to go to one of those "serpent handling "churches and you went there for twenty years ...Serpent handling would have to be high on your list of beliefs.

If you decide as an adult to go to a seventh day adventist church and go there for twenty years ..a saturday sabbath would have to be high on your list of beliefs

People can disagree within a church about pre or post or no rapture, how old the earth is,whether Christ was actually born on dec 25,whether Christ was actually rich or poor...etc etc etc

I am not saying Obama has to believe every single item his church does.Items number 49, 50, 51 are items in which he may disagree. However ,he would have to agree with the basic premise of his church ,which is black power, black liberation theology which was invented by James Cone, who is credited by United Trinity on their website. It is a theology based on marxism and is their core belief.

also ,I wouldn't have a problem with obama attending a church whose minister is TD Jakes,a well known minister who i disagree with doctrinally.i don't believe TD Jakes is rascist.

yes its different. but i believe that it is possible eve over the span of 20 years as an adult for the direction of a church to change and/or for a person to change.

it is the same for my parents who do not like the direction the church/demonination too. they changed and so did the church. and they spent their entire adult lives in this church. so yes, it is possible for the change to occur even with 20 or more years as an adult.

there were always some core teaching i did not believe in. but others i did. however the overall tone changed to where i could no longer accept it even tho there were some things i believed in and some i never did. the things that i did not believe grew to outweigh what i could still accept.
