I think you like to paint all posters who are right or right of center as all having the same opinion. It tends to be easier for you than to actually remember the difference in philosophy of the different poster. How could you possibly call spending more money than you bring in to be conservative? Cutting taxes would be a conservative belief. Increasing spending (which was done a lot in the last 8 years) is not conservative. The last administration failed because there were not budget cuts to counter the lack of tax revenue.
I've never embraced the "conservatism" of the last 8 years or anyone trying to resemble being a conservative that is not. So no I do not brush them as a conservative. And I never have. And who is they? I have never painted a Democrat as a Liberal either. I call them like I see them. Yes there are still traditional Republicans out there. Far and few between these days though.
One thing you are forgetting is that Federal Revenues went up when the tax rates were cut. The problem was not that the Republicans failed to cut spending it is that they grew it too much.
Ironically I'm expecting the democrats to do the same thing. I think they will grow government too much and over reach to the left a little too far. By growing government too much they will probably offset any good they've done by spending money to jump start the economy.
Well maybe you should wait and see how he restructures the budgeting process before you judge. I meant millions, its hard to keep track anymore. I said it would save Louisana money over the long haul ,and it will because our businesses will not have increased costs to pass on to us. I don't know where you get the idea that saddeling extra costs onto business is a good thing. Just because the rest of the country is being dumb does not mean we need to be. Additionally the Louisiana labor market is great with thousands of jobs from all sectors of the pay scale waiting to be filled. There is no reason people can't work here. So the honeymoon didn't go on forever. Fifty-nine percent wins re-election without a run-off, and is a great approval rating.
Right or wrong, Bush had 2 wars and a financial system collapse at the end of his term to blame for his spending. Obama is trying to fight the fire Bush started with gasoline.
Well, even his nonmilitary spending increased greatly compared to Clinton. Unfunded mandates like "No Child" and the creation of the bloated and inefficient Dept. of Homeland Security preceded the financial system collapse by five years. This isn't even counting the post-crisis bailout spending.
I agree with you here. The last thing we needed was a dept of homeland security and bigger government. All they had to do was fix where the original system was broken. I'd have to do more research about No Child left behind before I could speak of that!
But you know its not that simple either, because state law dedicates the revenues to particular uses. Usually it takes some major jumping through hoops to change that dedicated use. I'm not saying its impossible, but its certainly not a case of, "Washington's sending us a billion for roads? Great, now we can take half of the gasoline sales taxes state law says are only for roads, and spend it on schools instead."
