I agree it was a factor up north. But he would have won despite the northern vote (not a lot of people in the northern parishes as compared to the ones south of Alexandria) had it not been for Blanco's negative campaign.

Jindal should get Miss. Governor Haley Barbour to do a little campaigning for him. Blanco has been crying about how much money Miss is getting.

Also, Blanco despised former FEMA Director Michael Brown until now. Now she believes everything he is saying and wants congress to investigate. Of course, they held hearings and the Dems basically called Brown an incompetent idiot. She is getting really desperate to bring up his name.

    Here is Barbour's response...

I don't have a link or anything, but this is something I heard Barbour say on our local news. (I live in MS) He basically told the feds that if they didn't provide all the relief we requested, that's OK, we'll take care of ourselves. I don't know if that has anything to do with the quick response for our requests, but, as they say, it's a lot easier to help someone that's willing to help themselves. As a LA native, I'm not implying that Louisianians aren't willing to help themselves, but the politicians do seem to send a message that all this should be taken care of by the government.

I grew up in Metairie, and lived there into my mid 20's. That being said, I know a lot of the problems caused by Katrina were indeed due to the government, (MRGO, for one), but I'm just saying that MOST people don't know these things, and were really turned off by Blanco and Nagin after the storm.

It doesn't hurt that we have much more influential politicians in office in MS, fair or not. (Trent Lott, Gene Taylor, and of course, Haley Barbour)

Even on local levels, we have people in office that will do whatever it takes to make sure their constituents are taken care of. About 3 or 4 days after the storm, FEMA had 18 wheelers full of ice, but they were here in Hattiesburg, just waiting for whatever red tape was in the way to be cut, so that they could deliver it to points south of here, like Biloxi and Gulfport, I guess. After witnessing these trucks just sitting there, the Forrest County Sheriff basically confiscated the trucks, and took the ice to local shelters and aid stations. He couldn't watch people suffer right here, while FEMA had ice sitting in trucks for DAYS right here. He got in a little trouble for it, but I don't think it was pursued much, because the government would have looked even worse than they already looked, with people finding out that they had the ice 50 miles north of the coast, but due to red tape, wouldn't deliver it.

I hope Blanco's efforts to get LA a % of oil revenues works out, because that is the best chance LA has at getting enough $$$ to attempt to restore the coastline. After that, I hope she gets voted out.:thumb:

Randy Haynie told me last week that it is Jindal's race to lose. The rumors of Edith Bunker not even running are not true at this point in time. Randy indicated that Edith and Coach are in it to win it, and Coach does not want to quit. Randy indicated that a final decision would be made by June 1st. At that point in time, only John Breaux could enter the race and raise enough revenue to have a shot at winning it all.

Of course, if you really want to seal it up, someone should pony up about $250K and pay Cleo to enter the race; Edith wouldn't even make the run-off.

I love Bobby Jindal; voted for him first time, and will this time.

But I will never vote for: Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.
Hussein is a Muslim name, which comes from the name of Ali's son--Hussein Ibn Ali. He was raised a Muslim, spent years in Muslim schools.

He pretends to be devoutedly Christian simply for political aspirations, imo.

CNN debunks false report about Obama
    January 23, 2007

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.

Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.

Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa.

Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.

He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."

    ...

"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."

Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.

"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."

"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

The Obama aide described Fox News' broadcasting of the Insight story "appallingly irresponsible."

Me and Obama have vastly different ideologies (and upbringings). I will never vote for him. And he will never take my Benelli Super Black Eagle shotgun. I feel a certain kinship to Bobby Jindal, however. He could get my vote for President.

"Obama favors racial preferences for select minorities in both the business world and academia. A strong supporter of gun control, he has proposed banning all civilian semi-automatic weapons. He is strongly pro-abortion, including the partial-birth abortion procedure many regard as infanticide. He is a proponent of socialized medicine. "
