How about going for a run from the 2 on 4th and goal? Is that playing it close to the vest. I thought Miles was making a statement. "We just drove 80 yards on you and now we're going to break your 17-quarters-without-a-TD record. This is a new half of football."
Ultimately, I know the decision rests on the head coach, and it would be up to Miles if he truely did want to "open it up more", but weren't we saying this same thing last year? If I recall correctly, Saban was the one taking "heat" for everyone's preceived notion that he was responsible for "holding Jimbo back". Wonder now, since we have a coaching change, and go from a coach who had a defensive background, to a coach that has an offensive background, yet we're still looking for the offense to "open up", then perhaps it wasn't Saban holding Jimbo back....it might be Jimbo, holding Jimbo back???
Miles stated the week leading up to the game that we needed to play mistake-free football; reduce the amount of "negative plays" and chip away. He acknowledged that it was going to be a dogfight and he didn't want to see the game being lost because of turnovers.
I loved the 4th Down call to start the 2nd half. Playing it close to the vest would have been going for the field goal.....Nice power run right up the gut. I think it gave our offense confidence and took some of the steam out of Bama's defense...... I also liked that we won the coin toss and deferred to the 2nd half. :geauxtige
We have the receivers to be USC but we dont have Reggie Bush, Lindale White, and Leinert. JR is playing good but he is not Matt Leinert right now. And Addai is great but he is not Reggie Bush. Losing Alley Broussard was a big blow to this offense. I think Jimbo has done a good job bringing this offense along. Yes i would like to see us throw long more and i think Jimbo is a little too conservative in his game management but their are some reasons for that. Games dictate some of your playcalling. Against a tough defense like Alabama you cant get too crazy or they end up with turnovers. And being on the road you pick your moments. And sometimes your players make good calls look bad and bad calls turn into touchdowns and make you look like geniuses. I would watch out that the only time X Carter is brought in is for the reverse. That is sort of a no brainer. The reverse is a play that needs to be set up in my opinion. I like to have a few sweeps run and get the defense set up to flow to the ball.
am i gonna have to start writing my posts more carefully to prevent others from cut&paste to change the meaning?
Yep, but those very same people need to realize that LSU plays in the SEC, and USC plays in the PAC-10.:thumb:
