i have to wonder how much the play calling had to do with randall. remember when mauck and randall were battling you kinda heard the same things from the coach about how close they were but their play was nowhere near the same come game time. i can't remember a lsu quarterback stand in the pocket like russel did. this game was really rough with the conditions and osu playing soo many people in the box to stop the run, i'm not sure we'll play another secondary this year as good as osu so i don't think many other teams will play 8-9 in the box so we should see more balance. the box score showed no sacks for osu, is that right? i thought they had at least one. jv also needs to stop leaving his feet when rushing around the line of scrimmage, hes gonna get hurt jumping in the air like that. man what a night, lsu won but i think my body just hasn't realized it yet.
I guess it's not plain and simple to me. JV had 15 carries to Broussards 5. Broussard is faster and stronger and bigger than JV. He apperared to have more of a shot a running tonight than JV. If a spark can be added by changing QB's why didn't Broussard get a bigger percentage of the 20 carries these guys shared. I just hope we don't get tunnel vision on one back based on 2003 performance. The meat of my question was is Broussard dropping balls at practice or anything like that.
Until an LSU QB proves he can hit open recievers with at least a speck of cosistancy EVERY team on the schedule is going to stack the box. It doesn't matter if their DB's are 5'2" and run a 5.5 40 no one will respect the passing game until you give them a reason to and so far LSU has not. Look for 8 and 9 men in the box until LSU makes them pay for it.
I agree. The problem with JV was that he couldn't cut b/c of the wet field. We all know how incredible the guy is, but not when you have no footing. It seemed to me like if they couldn't use the RB that could cut, why not put in the bigger one to pound out some yardage? The play calling was bad on both sides of the ball though, IMO. Why the hades didn't we blitz more? We weren't getting enough pressure on Anderson all night. When we did blitz, he ended up on his butt. I've read for weeks that he would have to have time to make plays to be able to do anything against LSU, and that's exactly what happened. But the play of the players was just bad. Bad play calling or not, both QB's made some horrible passes. Of course both QB's made some great passes which the WR's dropped. There were dropped INT's, missed tackles, and 2 kick off's out of bounds. There was WAY too much pressure on Randall in the first half (and I think at least part of the reason JR was able to make more plays late in the game was because their defense was tired and not getting the same pressure on him, but that's in another thread.) We have incredible talent, but the whole team is gonna have to step it up or it won't matter what plays are called.
I think a neon sign would have sealed this, but even without one, RAY CHARLES could see what we were gonna do. The one long run by JV, we were in pass formation. Play calling did not help Randall's performance, it made him look worse. Russel too. THE best players aren't any good without good play calling.
Play calling was certainly suspect in the first half. My question is did Jimbo structure the offense in the first half around Randall's abilities or lack there of? The offense was certainly a more wide open attack in the second half with Russell as QB, which is what needed to be done with the conditions of the field and the OSU defense. That being said, the fans, the media and obviously the coaches have known for 8 months that OSU would put 8 in the box and make the offense complete passes against their talented defensive backfield. JaMarcus certainly has more ability but in my opinion any OC would keep it basic with a QB in his first chance at playing time. Alternatively, Fisher put the ball in JaMarcus's hands considerably more than Randall. I was pulling for Randall because he deserves a chance and I thought that Russell was not ready for the SEC, but JaMarcus showed me that he is ready to compete for the SEC Title. In my opinion Russell should start next week, but whatever Saban decides I fully support.
What game were you watching? The D played pretty dahm good and we DID BLITZ, they picked it up half the time. We got to him some also. re-watch it son your call on the defense is as bad as Jimbo's play calling. :dis:
on target my a$$ u see what you want to see. Remember Marcus threw the TD that came back. Jamarcus threw a few nice one's too. LOOK at the stats. neither one looked worth a ****. Jamarcus missed Green in a LOB easy simple ball I could have thrown. ON target for what??? at what??? your dreaming. :dis: If you mean ANDERSON the other QB I'll buy that.
