They've been replaced by a new "U" model that has the 105 howitzer, one 40mm, a new 25mm gatling gun, and amazing new sensors.
Actually had a fly over just like this, or so I am to assume. It was at TMS a few years ago and he was actually on his way to drop a pay load on some iraqi tail. The cool thing was they patched the pilot into the PA system of the race track so we could hear him telling us what he was going to do. The bad part was, it was so damned cloudy and overcast that we couldn't even see him. The race was rained out so we just sat in the stands and drank beer all day.
Link to just about everything you would want to know about the AC-130. :thumb: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ac-130.htm
Deception, mind of the ground pounder. Somebody had to show the cub scouts where the targets were!
These fellas are brutal. If the environment is permissive, they WILL make the bad guys shyte their drawers.
Secretly, I'm a Hawg fan as well, so to speak. Just don't tell anyone. Some of the best guys to talk sh!t with in the bar as well. And to think they were supposed to be completely retired by 1992 or so...
The pregame flyover jets were F-16's after all. Four of them in formation, low and with afterburners on! They timed it perfectly during the finale of the Star Spangled Banner. They were said to be from Holoman Air Force Base with an LSU grad in command.
Strange. The Air Force web site doesn't mention F-16s at Holloman (outside Alamogordo NM). The F-117 stealth fighter used to be based there when it was active. Looks like Holloman is the home for the new F-22 stealth fighter.
