Hey @islstl , would you say Hill is better than Kevin Faulk? Just asking, because he is the last great back we had that stayed a year longer than was expected and I think he had the longest NFL career of any LSU RB.
Again...are we really going to complain about players leaving LSU early when our fans keep trying to persuade them to leave? I guess it's out with the old and in with the new. A lot of people are more excited about signing Fournette than seeing Hill dominate as an upperclassman who has been battle-tested in the SEC. Couldn't he provide experience to a backfield while mentoring his successor?
Spot on Stacey. LSU has had something like 20 underclassmen leave for the draft early in the past 2 years. Great for them but it has hurt the depth of this team and maybe has accounted for a loss or two during the year and chances at greater things. This is probably a selfish thing but I could not give a rat's ass what they do in the NFL (unless they go to the Saints or Cowboys). I am an LSU fan, not a watch a kid for two years until he goes pro leaving the school when he is peaking instead of staying to win a Championship fan. My favorite player in the last 10 years is Glenn Dorsey. Why?
Gotta respect the growth. I love the fact that he's wanting to stay as a thank you to CLM and the University. I was in the camp that thought sure he was long gone.
I don't complain about players leaving early if they're ready. I actually thought some of the guys who left last year would've benefited from another year. If he indeed does decide to stay, I would welcome him back and root for him as i did this year and last. I'm more concerned with him getting an injury that could cost him millions. Not too many other professions where he will be able to "fall back" on and still make that kind of money if that does happen. I know it's a different sport, but I remember Randy Livingston tearing his leg up in basketball. He was a beast on the court before the injury. Hopefully, he takes out one of them insurance policies on his legs that some athletes get. Not wishing any negative on him. I actually want to see him, Fournette and Magee beast on all competition next year on our way to winning the first NCAA playoff.
It depends on the player. There is nothing left for Hill to prove. He is ready. Personally, I hope he stays because it benefits my enjoyment of LSU football next season. Exactly.
I get all of that and respect it. However, the early departures to the NFL are hurting my favorite team, the Tigers. Our younger guys need the veterans around to help them grow and learn how to handle success and adversity. Could he get hurt? Yes. It could also happen before he steps on a pro field, like what happened to Demetrius Byrd or Chad Jones. That's the risk of life, in general. As my dad used to tell nervous mothers who worried their sons would get seriously injured playing football, "Over the years, I've had a five or six boys hurt themselves badly enough that they could no longer play football. In that same time, I've had over a dozen boys die in car accidents." These young kids cannot go around worrying about getting injured. They play a game where that is a part of the deal. I'm happier that Hill wants to honor his university.
Well said. I like to see our guys do well in the League, but first and foremost I am an LSU fan. BR is my hometown and where my alma mater is. And as an old Redemptorist alum I would be so happy if my fellow alums Hill and Collins stayed one more year.
That's an interesting observation. Faulk was in the league for 13 years, which is unheard of at that position.
