My dad told me a story of seeing Art in action. He tore into one guy because the guy was wearing the same shoes as Art and wouldn't take them off when Art told him to. Some of the dude's friends tried to pull Art off, and caught a beatdown as well. He was crazy. Today he would likely catch the TPOS label.
I now know Art. We are on a first name basis with each other. We live in the same town. He truly is one of the nicest human beings on the planet....now.
I grew up where he grew up. I know a hundred Art Cantrelles. Fighting is a hobby, and one of only three things to do down the bayou. Fishing, fighting, and another thing that starts with f. Every now and again a dude from Larose, or Golden Meadow, or Cut Off likes to go out and bloody his knuckles on some other dude's face. It really isn't personal.
Fights are precisely why I stopped going to bars by the time I was 22. Fighting is dumb unless you have to or are getting paid for it.
very well said, hate when boys fight.....what's the point? Back on topic, anyone have any updates on his status? Would hate to loose him from a selfish LSU football fan perspective.
No, not really. I went out a few times in college, but I can probably count them all on my fingers. I was content to hang out at the apartment with my girlfriend...when I wasn't working.
Sometimes it's hard to "turn the other cheek". I also stopped going to bars years ago because I got tired of fighting. Some guys go to bars specifically because they're in the mood the throw hands with someone and will pick a fight with anyone no matter what they're doing. You also have the labeling issue.. where someone turns the other cheek too often and word gets around that he's a coward. For me, it's all a bunch of nonsense; fighting. Unless you're defending yourself or like someone else said, getting paid for it (boxing, etc...). Either way, we don't have the full story here and this is all just speculation. But if the "victim" started it by using words, Hill was wrong. If he started it by hitting, Hill was probably also in the wrong, but I can understand his response. Most people will react when swung on, I know I will. At any rate, hopefully this news was blown out of proportion and it isn't such a big deal. Hate to lose Hill.
i never said it was special, sure white guys can get insulting, but history shows in this country that these kind of insults probably weigh more. You can deny that, but you're not black, so i wouldnt expect you to understand the psychology of it. Its easier for you to write it off.
I'm guessing you're in the minority if you only went out a few times in college. For me, it was more like going out a few times a week--and I didn't even go out nearly as much as most of the people I knew. With time, that tapered off in my junior and senior years, as it became "same ol', same 'ol." My point is that it's unreasonable to expect college athletes to stay at home and not go out and experience college life.
