Art enjoyed kicking ass and didn't discrminate. Bigger than him, smaller than him, one dude, 8 dudes... it didn't matter. Art was going to start a fight and finish it. I bet he would have owned MMA.
It could have all been avoided if he'd just kept his ass home. Only two things happen after 12 AM, after all...
He's in college. You're kidding, right? I would've considered myself a loser if I'd ever had been at home on a weekend until I was 30. In my early 40's, it's a luxury to be at home on the weekend. But our perspectives change as we age. (Even so, my kids keep me running more than I'd like...)
He made a mistake. Suspend him for a game and put him on notice that if it happens again, he's gone. Kids fight.....always have. Former LSU RB's like Art Cantrelle were almost praised for it.
My dad played college football in the 60's; spoke of many fights. But people weren't pussies then, so no arrests.
As Hill should. If all it takes to get a player in trouble is to insult him, then opponents will start staging fights to create trouble for players. Public figures . . . and LSU football players are public figures getting public money . . . must beware of being suckered into trouble by those with devious agendas. Remember Joey Belle? Once it became known how sensitive he was, road opponents started heckling him in the field. They got him thrown out of more than one game for going into the stands after a spectator. Tempers must be controlled. Remember that white guys can get deeply insulted, too. Black guys get no special dispensation to commit battery when they are insulted.
Art Cantrelle was an asshole and proud of it. Cholly Mac should have dismissed him. Instead, LSU influence kept Cantrelle out of jail.
