Please show me where African-Americans came to America as free men and were held back. Any example in history, go ahead. I just got off work, but when I wake up I'll see if you've come up with anything. See for the most part if not for slavery America would not be the melting pot it is today. We would have the different European sects, we would have Asians who came over to work, but there wouldn't be African-Americans, so .. you take away slavery and what wealth is there to speak of? You will not find me arguing that Jim Crow laws, Separate but Equal etc did not hinder African-Americans at all. But you have no factual historical evidence that slavery caused African-Americans to be poorer simply because there would be almost no African-Americans.
I find the word offensive as well, but you realize you give the word all the power it has by being offended by it correct?
Some good discussions and keep them going. I agree with many (not all) of the opinions from both Mastermind and VampMuse, even though they are in the midst of some heated arguments. But to change the subject just a little: Were there any other football players confirmed to have been in the altercation? Has it been proven that Jeremy Hill was the one who beat the guy up? Was he the primary guy doing the beating or one of the secondary guys?
The point I'm trying to make is that "he offended me" is not a legal reason to commit battery on somebody. Sure, I can understand why it happens, I've hit somebody for offending me before. I was lucky not to get tapped for $1800 assault and battery. Could have gotten me fired, too. It was stupid and I have never let anybody manipulate me like that again. Sure, I understand that MM can relate to a racial insult. I just didn't like the suggestion that the law was "wrong" to hold someone accountable for his temper. Or the notion that a "racial" insult makes assault and battery acceptable, somehow.
i never said that and if please show me where I said it, if you think i did. I said i could relate to it and I also said I would have walked away. Or do you jsut want to ignore that.
im done, what you are using is a tried and true revisionist fall back on history. As if Africans wouldnt have migrated to the Americas without slavery. This post is truly misguided in fallacy. So your premise is completely wrong. Its not an issue of cause and effect.
Vamp and myself are not in a heated argument, this is good for this board. I just dont agree with his historical view of slavery.
it was more than him but from what I understand, he is on cellphone video throwing punches. ie, the arrest.
