If any of those players have been controlled by someone calling them that then they are letting themselves be controlled. It's nothing but a word. You give it whatever power it has over you. So if you want to give them power over you, keep being upset. Or you can take ownership of the word (obviously African-American culture has somewhat since they use the word far more than anyone else) and turn it into a power statement, ala what women do with the word bitch.
or we could just forgot the word 'historically' in my post or we could assume thats why the guy got his ass beat or assume the guy got his ass beat because he pushed through a group of football players physically while insulting them.
Look I'm big into history it was my degree, and I'm not saying people should forget it. What I'm saying is don't pretend that African-Americans have some special idea of what racism is that nobody else can understand, there are plenty of people that understand racism quite well in America and around the world. As far as lingering effects of slavery, if you want the completely non political correct historical view? The African-Americans ancestors had nothing taken from them monetarily. To say that today's African American population would be much better off financially etc, is factually and historically INACCURATE. Some of the earliest examples of education were actually house slaves being educated by their masters. Now don't construe that as me saying it was a good thing, it most certainly was not. Just the whole idea that we would have so much more wealth in the African-American community if not for slavery has been disproven time and time again by historians but pushed under the rug because it's not pc. Oh, you know me personally? My family is much worse off because my great great grandfather disagreed with slavery and left his family. So you know what, there were plenty of white people fighting for African-American rights as well.
this is really my point, as I said I have walked away from situations like this many of times and Im not a football player, but I do have 2 degrees as well and working on a third one and I do have a son and another son that will be born in September. I cant afford to be in jail or have a record, it will affect there futures negatively. But I can relate to Hill and if thats the reason he hit the guy cause he called him a nigger. Or he could have hit the guy for pushing through the crowd and telling them to get the fuck out of the way nigger.
See I'm much more okay with an explanation of hey some dipshit insulted football players while pushing through them. Then, while the players are definitely stupid because they know they are held to a higher standard, they at least are letting some white trash piece of shit control them with a word.
There is both the letter and the spirit of the law. Is punching someone who calls you a derogatory name a crime according to the letter of the law? yes it is. Is it true that when I see some drunk call someone else a Nigger just for the sake of starting shit that I would like to see him get his ass beat down. yet it is, and when the law arrives I saw nothing. Same as when the father down in Texas caught the guy molesting his daughter and he killed him. You honestly think any jury is going to convict that guy? Not if I'm on that jury. In magnitude, these are light years apart but the lesson is equal that there are two parts to the law: the spirit and the letter. The letter of our laws say that murder is a crime punishable by death in Texas, but the spirit of our laws say that dude got what he had coming to him. I am not a black man so I do not understand what it feels like to be called that word. That said, if you've ever seen someone you cared about called that name you can see how it hurts them, even when it comes out as anger. My wife and I have adopted two children, both of which are bi-racial. I look at the world today and I am grateful for the progress we've made in race relations but I also cringe when I think of incidents like this because it shows that in spite of our progress there is still an element of racial ignorance in the country that needs to be finally unseeded. All of this said, on behalf of myself and my family....I'm glad the mother fucker got knocked the fuck out. I hope like hell it doesn't cause Hill to miss too much action....for him and, selfishly, for myself and every tiger fan. It would be tragic if it did.
oh my friend you are so wrong. African Americans had plenty taken from them, families were broken up, they werent allowed to learn how to read and write, it was against the law to educate black people, so thats a bullshit that plantation owners educated slaves. You are being a revisionist at best and a liar in the least. Yes African Americans would have been much better of it laws against them owning land and making money wouldnt have been written. Are you seriously going to tell me Slaves and African Americans had not negative financial impact from slavery and laws associated with reconstruction and jim crow. I never said white people didnt fight for black people. Are you just making up shit to cover up for you gross inaccuracies that you just posted? Show me how any of this has been dis-proven, explain it to me
To the first part, it's still a word and the only power it has it one that is given to it by the listener. As far as the second part, yeah some cops are jackasses, but it's not just African-Americans that go through this. Be poor in an area and you get treated with scorn by a lot of cops also, be Mexican. The manner in which you speak and dress holds just as much connotation for police officers as your skin unless they are straight up racists. If they are straight up racists (as a cop), my suggestion is get their badge number and report it but don't get an attitude.
True, it doesnt pay to get an attitude with a cop or a racist cop doesnt matter. Its just a situation where you will lose every time if you do.
I realize that the listener gives a word power, but to me, some words are simply more offensive than others. It's like a woman being called a bitch. Okay...whatever. But the c-word, on the other hand, is one that I cannot even utter; I find it that offensive.
