I agree with ISLSTL about JJ RIGHT NOW. He's right. I said it myself last night just seeing JJ on the sidelines. He looks like a different guy, and most importantly, the team appears to be with him. For whatever reason any of us don't like it, tough shyt. Me included. Like ISLSTL, I didn't think it was right to not start Lee against WKU. I didn't think it was right to not start him last night. But the proof's in the pudding. We're 11-0, just beat OM with absolute EASE worse than any beating in the previous 100 meetings with them. JJ is very much a big reason why, like it or not. By the way he played, and the way he led. It is what it is. Regarding Arky, yeah...I think Lee could beat em. I think he could beat UGA too. I don't think he can beat Bama, and up until the last two weeks, JJ hadn't gotten many reps...not enough to use him in important situations with any real confidence. Right now though, I'm confident in JJs ability to beat any of those 3. If anyone doesn't realize the running game is better with JJ at the helm, you aren't paying attention. Yes, I realize the running backs are good with Lee too. But with JJ, the entire running GAME is improved. Pretty much unstoppable, really. Well, if I'm the HC, my plan is to limit Arky's opportunities. The way to do that is run the hell outta the ball, eat clock, and score that way. We can do that better with JJ than JLee.
Below are the rushing stats from lsusports.net. There haven't been enough games with JJ for a representative statistical sample. LSU does have more rushing yards in the two JJ starts since Alabama than in the previous 9 games, so there is an argument in support of islstl. You also could counter that with the statement that those two games were played against our weakest defensive opponents. I guess time will tell. I'm not a JJ fan by any means. As a fan I prefer the horrid throw off the back foot than holding the ball for eternity, though I really don't understand why, myself. I'll still support my Tigers regardless, but what good is being an armchair quarterback if I can't jump up and down in my living room and scream like a girl when we score, or complain when the QB doesn't live up to my demanding expectations :hihi:. If this were any other position this wouldn't be a discussion. The backup comes in and does what you hope all backups do, then they go back to being the backup when the starter comes back. It happens all the time. This is only different for folks because it's the QB.
It's just never been done after 8 HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL starts by the "backup" Jarrett Lee. At least not that I have ever seen. It's an unenviable position Les was thrust into with all that happened. On one hand, he's been blessed that he has 2 capable QBs, both of which you can claim saved the season for LSU (Lee in the 1st 4 games especially and JJ in the Bama game). A blessing and a curse. Because heaven forbid this team lose one of it's remaining games based on a sub standard offensive effort, he'll never hear the end of it.
Correct. The shots of JJ on the sidelines showed a guy easy in his own skin; he was no longer isolated from his teammates--as he often seemed to be in the past two years. He was clearly reveling in the game and has the respect of his guys. This is a different JJ and (granted it wasn't Bama or the like), seeing him hang in for a completed pass regardless of the oncoming blitz--well, he's big--and he didn't flinch. He will need that poise and toughness in the three games left.....
I recall Steve Young leading the 49ers for... Wait... 8 or 9 game Qin streak only to have Montana relieve Young ... For the Super Bowl. So it HAS been done. At the time I thought Young could have won it all; still do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
