Yeah, JJ's passes lately, although the y have been few, have been absolute darts. He's a hell of a lot more decisive, and actually does something when he hops around in the pocket for a bit instead of taking a sack or trying to scramble. Even when he DOES run, he doesn't wait until it's too late. That sack he avoided early on against OM and subsequent scramble were pretty ill. It just looks to me like he's putting it all together finally. I know the competition hasn't been the toughest, but how many times did we see him struggle against inferior competition in the past? Hell, I remember him barely being able to throw a forward pass against freaking USL in 2009...
You know why? Because he concerns that once he makes a couple of major mistakes like what he did in the Bama game, Les Miles will immediately use them as excuses against him and pull him out, which was exactly what had happened. Can you blame him for being afraid of losing the starting position to a guy who's been given unfair favoritism by the HC along all the years?
That's exactly what I saw in the Ole Miss game. A totally different JJ. A pass that he floated with touch and completed? Never seen that before from him. Avoided a sack, and came out of it and made a good play of it. Stood tall in the face of an oncoming blitzer and delivered a strike to Shepard. Like you said, maybe the competition isn't anything to rave about, but the decision making, the precision passing, the calmness in the pocket all point towards a person that is much more comfortable in his own skin. It's like a light bulb finally turned on for him.
JJ is playing to win, JL was playing to not lose more often than not If JJ stays consistent, he is definitely our guy and we will win it all! He is getting better every week, let's just hope we see the same JJ Friday!
I don't think this is a fair statement at all. I do think we were conservative at first early in the season but then took the kid gloves off and he excelled. 160 QB rating before the Bama game disagrees with the assessment he was playing not to lose. 8.4 yards per attempt does as well. That's higher than Arkansas' average.
Again, the kid is so afraid of making mistakes and play conservatively like you claimed is only because he wasn't rewarded fairly for what he has accomplished and didn't see enough confidence in him from the coaching staff.
I think it is more a function of the coaches than the QBs themselves. Afterall, Lee is not playing because CLM is deciding not to play him, it's not that he hasn't played well this year. Lee could have just as much run the score up on WKU and OM as did JJ. He came in for his one series against WKU, and drove it right down for a TD. He came in against OM, and drove it right down for a TD. JJ is looking good as well. I hope it continues, being as he will be the starter for the rest of the season.
I'm not discounting you; just doing my own due diligence - something that should have been done prior to posting.
