+1. JJ doesn't have it! Lee needs a shot at redemption! One pass last night showed he has more confidence to me!:geaux:
As much as it pains me to say, in my mind he already has. Last night was more than an "off night". It's time to come to the realization that JJ, right now, is as good as he'll ever be.
Don't get me wrong, JL should get a shot.... but am I the only one who is going to bring up that shep and RR both had 3 drops? Granted, they were poorly located, but still catchable. Those are throws that I think JL locates better than JJ. But JJ's WRs let him down last night.
I was very disappointed too, but I don't see Miles telling him to ride the bench from the get go. I see him giving JJ a chance to redeem himself before putting JL in.
I think it's more unfair to judge him by his 2008 performance as a freshman. Let him get the shot that Jefferson is getting as a junior. If Jefferson keeps starting and never gets benched for poor play, then Lee is gone in January to find some senior playing time and LSU will be stuck with only Jefferson for another season and no experienced backups if he goes down. We would have a dozen talented young receivers and backs next year and no quarterback that can get them the ball. Les needs to wise up. He's letting Jefferson piss his head coaching job away.
It has been stated several times that Lee's work in the spring game and practices was better than Jefferson's. It did seem that the offense sparked when he was in. it could be because the other starters think Lee should be starting and they responded. Or it could be because Vandy was worn out. At this point I am not sure it is a good idea to put Lee in for some reps if our lead in the game is fragile. Unfortunately, the spectre of pic-sixes is still floating around and you don't want to give away a lead--leave it to the defense to hold up unless they are in desparate need of a break that a reasonably long offensive series can give them. But if we are behind and need a spark, then I think you put in Lee.
I considered the drops, but, I cannot recall one accurate throw from JJ. I am the last guy to want to make drastic changes. I had 15 guys over watching the game and we were quietly resigned to the fact that our D was going to have to carry us this season. After that ONE series with J Lee, everyone's mood got lighter and we had a blast afterward discussing the game and the prospects for the rest of the season. I think my point is that a change is needed just to improve the mood for not only fans but the team itself.
