Flynn could make the throws if the defense was not playing honest. Although he had some accuracy issues from time to time, in the end he had enough skill to keep the offense honest. Also, he was quick enough to avoid 12+ yard sacks so the offense was never in a big hole on 2nd or 3rd down. His biggest issue was his ankle injury which he never really got over in 2007 and that eliminated many of his quarterback sneaks and rollouts. To me the reason he was successful, he got rid of the ball fairly quick, had some mobility, didn't take huge sacks, and got the ball in the hands of the receivers in the 8-14 yard range IN STEP. <----- You can't be a game manager if you don't get your guys the ball IN STEP in the middle routes. If you can't do that then you just become a bad quarterback.
I also never felt like we were out of a game with Flynn in except in the 05 SECCG, wasn't his fault though. How many picks did he throw against Alabama in 07 and still had the nuts to lead the team to victory. Thats what i loved about Matt Flynn, and i really hope he gets a chance in the NFL. The 2 losses in 07 you couldn't put on Flynn, to me those were more like coaching mental lapses.
Can't wait to see Lee sling it around some and give it to Shep/Ridley too. It could be a preview of what is coming next year.
You might get a preview of defensive backs playing wide receiver too. To me this is Lee's make or break, if LaTech is playing 8 in the box Lee has to be able to hit guys in stride on a regular basis. If he has a horrible game his college career is over more or less. Seriously consideration would have to be given to the RS Freshman Garrett in the spring. People can say what they want about the kid, one thing you can't say is he is gutless.
The defense checked out during periods of those two games, too. I think we have talked about this before, but I always felt the same way about Matt Mauck. I felt like we were a QB away in 02 and 04, also. He was injured in 02, and he left early after 03. Those could have been really great years.
Yeah, if JJ breaks both of his legs or something in the spring. Seriously though, I hope he does well on Saturday. Boise's QB threw for 350+ on Tech and they had over 500 yards of offense so Lee should be able to do okay.
I gotta agree, alot of people think that there will be an open competition for the starting qb position next season, and i say wrong. Miles may say there is an open competition but there won't be. You cannot tell me that Jarrett Lee looked worse in practice than Jefferson did at the beginning of this season. I bet Lee looks like freaking Joe Montana in practice. And we all know Jefferson couldn't have looked great in practice, because he has looked really confused at times this season, has messed up some crap at the line, and has looked very raw. However he has progressed nicely and i think has turned into a top 3 SEC quarterback this season. Jefferson will be your starter next year, and he should be. Just don't buy into the there will be an open competition stuff.
Get ready for another 7-10 win season, which is not bad but.... imho Get use to seeing this in the Box if you already haven't. ******** + sometimes *
Well we will still only win 7-10 games next year, even though we went 8-4 last year. Didnt know you that LaSalle. Even though the evidence has been apparent on the field, we still have a terrible starting QB and a all world backup.
