bogany joins turtle thomas and olvey @ ASU. nice free agent pickups. LSU outfielder transfers to ASU Jeff Metcalfe The Arizona Republic Jan. 25, 2007 Outfielder Jarred Bogany will begin practice at Arizona State on Friday after transferring from Louisiana State, where he was a starter last season. Bogany was released from LSU and is immediately eligible. He will be in the mix for a starting job http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/asubase0125.html Bogany hit .319 as a freshman at LSU, making 42 starts. He was a 15th-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2005 major league draft. Also more important actually is LSU's lefty blake martin is done for the season. pretty big loss. problem with his hip.
one of college baseball's little rules. its a free agent type market every year. thats how we got olvey and many others.
They did not want to be Tigers. They followed Coach Thomas to Arizona. I personally think part of our programs problems were with Coach Thomas and his failure to recognize which players actually would play college ball and not sign pro contracts -- it is always a risk, but Thomas seemed to have more trouble evaluating the risk than other coaches at other programs (at least while at LSU). I really don't think this hurts LSU in the long run. There is also an article that mentions it in todays Advocate. The article also has some good news about the player's conditioning and health - I really think this coaching staff is going to produce some good pitching -- we need it. Ouch. Oh well, I guess. I feel pretty confident in CPM's ability to coach a pitcher. It seems that was a big problem the last few years. I think his ability should definitely get our pitchers to where they need to be as well as polishing-up a few surprises.
LSU just signed a lefty who throws 90+. Shane Ardoin. Anyone know how he's coming along. I had spent a weekend at a duck camp with him and his father and they didn't talk about it- very humble people- but another friend who's up on LSU baseball said Shane had looked good in a practice game of some kind.
