Where have you been the last two years?! overcome adversity? How about taking over for an injured Davey in the SECCG against a team with a legit shot at the national title?
Consistently see him make plays to win games for this team? Hmmmmmm.....
    Oh i know...
How about a 7-1 record. with two of those being a blowout of Poorida.

with 5 of the 7 wins against powder puffs. A gutsy performance in the SEC CG. Props to him for coming off the bench to play an incredible game. A legit team blowout against FLA. He played well there.

Still waiting to see where he proves himself to be a consistent, dominant SEC QB. This year, hopefully, is his breakout year and he plays as consistent all season long as he has in the first 2 blowouts this year.

Thank you Gulf Coast for explaining me more clearly. Being an engineer, I sometimes have trouble putting my thoughts to paper.:) :geaux:

    Hey Captain,
I think you make some good points but you're probably a little over critical about the whole situation. I don't believe Mauck has completely proved himself yet (as you claim) but I have confidence that he will. A QB needs poise and intangibles which Mauck seems to possess. Mauck may not have the strongest arm but it's adequate and can get the job done, at least on the collegiate level. If Mauck stays healthy but only leads LSU to a 8-5 year again, I would want Flynn/Russell to be in the competition for starter next year (as you mentioned). So would many other Tiger fans after the expectations that are currently building. There was a good point about Rohan struggling early in his career (Auburn especially). Mauck and Randall should be better this year. I feel confident with them running the team and apparently so does Saban.

Mauck is (3-0) when he as had significant playing time vs. SEC teams....and those weren't pantsy SEC teams ( Tenn, Miss. St, Fla)....now I know Mauck isn't the best QB in the country but he has proven he can win games, and with the talent surrounding him, thats all we need to get to the Promise Land.

Thanks for the rebuttal lsu99. We have to be confident in the decisions Saban makes; that's why he makes the big $$$. A strong performance in the UGA game will work wonders for my confidence in Mauck. Again, I hope he gives me every reason to jump on board with you guys.

Captain, I'm not going to condemn you for your comments on Mauck. Everyone here is entitled to his or her opinion, and you acknowledge - as a good fan should - that you hope he proves you wrong.

It isn't Matt Mauck's fault that some of his wins have come against "patsy" teams. You gotta beat who you play, whoever it is. And if we go with that line of reasoning, it must be pointed out that the only teams JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn have beaten are high school teams.

For my money, I want Matt Mauck as my starting QB this year AND next year. If he continues to play well and help win games, why bench him for a redshirt freshman? As for Marcus Randall transferring, maybe he would rather be a backup at a major college that has a chance to win the SEC (and maybe more) than play at the 1-AA level. Maybe this is just me, but I would rather be a backup at LSU than a starter at, say, Nicholls State.

I know we are all anxious to see Russell and Flynn. Them not playing this year is like being given a nice gift but being told you can't open it right away. But until our current quarterback proves that he isn't capable of leading LSU to its goals, my support is with him.
