My opinion: Russell will not see the field this year b/c he is the real deal. If Saban sticks Russell in the game and he does well, he'll get a taste of what he's missing and perhaps want to transfer. Saban is being greedy b/c he know a JR comes along only every once in a while. Anywho, I like it!

Why does anyone care at this point? Mauck looks extremely good right now. Randall is getting some good reps and will feel pretty damn comfortable if we need to go to him. I can't wait to see the new guys, but I would rather see our starters play well and be ready for the season.

This could very well be the season we have all been waiting for.

Congrats to the MIGHTY TIGERS on a well played game.

I swear to god I'm going to vomit if someone asks a question about the freshmen quarterbacks next week at the press conference. Saban might actually vomit for me.

The guy has explained himself OVER and OVER about the situation.

And it's the same dude that will go unnamed from a New Orleans newspaper that will go unnamed who asks the question every week.

He actually pissed Saban off TWICE today. Frickin' hacks.

And someone is bound to ask Wednesday at the Coach's show. If someone does, they better be a call-in cause I wouldn't want to feel the wrath of Saban. He's a cool guy but he hates stupid questions.

    NCAA Redshirt Rule Definition

    One Play = One Year

Now I think there are ways around this because we have seen players play in games and get a readshirt.

I agree that we are in good shape with Matt. However, I believe the RS rule is a player can play in a game up to the third game and still redshirt. (It could be 2nd game) But in no way is it if he steps on the field he loses his RS. I think if he plays after the third game, they lose the RS unless injured. If this is true or close, you'll see a little action this week. If it's not true you want see him. If JR or Flynn enters the game it will be with the first team, not with 2nd or 3rd team players. It's about confidence and success!

Who gives a flip! I love the freshmen but could care less if they don't see the field till 05'. If Mauck is winning games why would anyone care less about the freshmen playing. If he is as good as he is predicted he will come out and be fire when we need him. Warm ups and getting reps are for inexperienced rookies.

    From the NCAA (see http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/membership_svcs/eligibility-recruiting/faqs/eligibility_seasons.html):

    Redshirt Definition
The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition. For example, if you are a qualifier, and you attend a four-year college your freshman year, and you practice but do not compete against outside competition, you would still have the next four years to play four seasons of competition.

Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you. You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

Please contact the certifying institution or conference for additional information. You also may contact the NCAA membership services staff at 317/917-6222 if you have further questions.
