Until JL plays poorly he is the starting QB. By tonight's performance he played well and is far away from losing his position.
I seem to remember some constantly screaming to pull Flynn and put Perrilloux in... some folks are never happy. JL has earned the position, he knows the offense and reads the defense; there's no confusion on the line, he's poised and efficient... maybe a tad shy on confidence but who can blame him? that will improve with each game. Please don't try to ruin Mett by throwing him to the wolves before he's totally ready; yes he did great today, but give him a chance to settle in and learn, yes give him snaps in upcoming games as needed. All in all I believe in JL as the one to be the general of this team, and that he will rise to whatever is put before him.
Islstl, I know what you're saying here but I can't help but point out: Lee: 8/9 for 123 yds and a TD (88.9%) Mett: 8/11 for 89 and one TD (72.7%) You claim accuracy is the concern, so you mean to tell me that both of them playing against the same team tonight, Lee's almost 90% accuracy is a cause for concern and Mett's 72% isn't? Sorry, I have to disagree. Given what I saw tonight from the QB's (and they both looked great I thought), I'm gonna go with the experience of the senior. Mett will continue to contribute this year but I wouldn't be ready to call him the starter yet... And as soon as he is, folks will be calling for Randall or Rivers to take over. Oh really? :hihi:
I thought lee played well. He ran the offense efficiently and threw the good passes. There is nothing lee did that we should be bitching about. Mett looked great. He will be a star at lsu. We don't know how he will do when under pressure and facing an sec defense. It good that we know he can play. Let mett keep getting experience. All is well in tigertown.
I think Mctiger had the best perspective. Lee threw 10 passes the entire first half, Mett almost got to 10 in his first 2 possessions. The difference is trying to hide your QB in the big games vs having an actual viable passing attack that someone should fear. MSU will bring 8 in the box Thursday night with Lee in the game. I hope he is as accurate then as he was tonight, the few times we will let him actually throw the ball. You're probably satisfied with a 10 win season. Just a guess on my part, but from your statement, it's a good guess. I want a championship this season. I can't see Lee delivering that for us.
I have to believe Les Miles wants to win the NC this year just as bad as any of us and is going to do what it takes to make sure we can get there. Period I feel in my gut that if Lee is not cutting it he is going to put in Mett, maybe even go back to a two QB offense if the situation dictates. I am certainly interested to see how we perform on Thursday. It si going to say alot about this issue.
Gotta start somewhere. I'd rather him get game experience against the NW St.'s of the world then throw him in against an SEC defense without ever playing a down. Then again, didn't he have some snaps at QB for UGa as a freshman?
And I hope Lee continues on this path. He very well may. We'll see Thursday night. FYI, showing those stats was pretty silly (especially the conclusion you drew from it). Randle dropped a beautiful pass on a crossing route that he could have taken the distance from about the 40 yard line. The night could have been even bigger for Mett. I'll pull for Lee to show MSU not to put 8 in the box. I hope he throws for 300.
