I think you're misinterpreting this. When Lee is in the game, the approach is to execute our game plan and establish our identity. We are a run-first team, as we should be with the monsters we have at RB and our outstanding offensive line. I know that everyone wanted to see Lee come out and throw it 40 times against NW to work out his timing and whatnot. However, the RBs need reps running behind the line and hitting the holes, and the OL needs time to gel in run-blocking. If Mett was the starter, you would be seeing the exact same thing. When you bring in the promising backup against an over-matched opponent, the idea is to get him as many reps as possible in case he's needed in the near future. It has little to do with trust, particularly with a sizable lead in the second half. Lee's being tasked with managing the game plan, which also involves making throws when needed. He has been doing just that, and appears to have made strides since the Oregon game, which is exactly what should have been expected. This is something that could not be said for the past 3 seasons, so I'm frankly delighted with the offense that we've seen thus far. We know who we are, and we are playing to our strengths. The coaching staff clearly does trust Jarret Lee, otherwise they wouldn't have named him the starter.
And it's a typical LSU fan forum critiquing a Saturday night performance. Is there a requirement that we use logic and reasoning?
Very little logic on boards. Yep, like we are 0-2, this is every year. Many are looking at the gas gauge and not enjoying the ride, gonna be a fun year. Lots of people are missing some great football. Enjoy the season.
I would not be so quick to write Lee off and anoint Mett as the preferred starter. I think if Lee continues to play steadily and improve, the team stands a good chance of going to the NC game. He needs to continue to manage the game well, like the previous QB greats that earned LSU the :crystal: I really like the fact that the offense is finally taking on an added dimension, unlike last year. I am sure the WR's are all excited about it. Mett looks great and would be heck of a backup at this point. He just needs to know the system better, being fresh on the team. I like the experience factor that Lee has, esp. in those high pressure situations where he was able to bring the team back from being behind.
And another thing. . .our offense looked nowhere near this polished against Cupcake State over the past 2 seasons. Remember the McNeese game last year? How about USL the year before? We finally appear to have our sh!t together, yet some will have you believe that the sky is falling.
Hence, this is why I stated that I trust the way the coach is handling the situation. I thought the original topic of the thread is about Mett being a far better talent then Lee. I think the point that we are all Tiger fans gets burried when we start to talk about position battles. We are 2-0 because of killer defense and a punishing ground attack. At some point this season we won't be able to repeatedly beat people with an I-formation, double tight, inside toss. At some point in this season the pressure will be on the QB to move the ball, and make game changing decisions. I've stated this in previous threads. Lee reminds me off Tony Romo. Hella sweet release, and good accuracy when the protection is there. But when the blitz is on, and the situation is heavy, he shown that he will panic more than he will step into the throw and make the play. Nothing makes me happier than to see LSU win, whether it be vs a Nick Saban coached Crimson Tide, or the Montana State Waterbottles.. As long as we win.... People start to get offended and defensive for no reason. We are all fans in the same boat... Let's keep the negative shots at one another to a minimum. But this thread is about the play of the QB. Nothing more, nothing less... And obviously, we all have our opinions... Yet the only one that actually matters lies between the ears of the man that eats the grass, calls for a spike with one second left, calls a TE reverse on 4th and one, and has a "damn good football team" that will "fight for victory!" Man there's nothing like being a Tiger fan! Geaux Tigers...
Football is about talent, intelligence, experience, coaching, determination, and luck. Ahhhh yes, you should be the quarterback. :rolleye33: And Mettenberger has done nothing at all. Then you better get used to Lee starting next week. That is not what people are saying. They are saying that Lee doesn't have to be bad for Mettenberger to be good. We don't have choose a quarterback. We have BOTH. Both bring assets to the table. Les is fortunate to lose a starting quarterback and have reserves like these that can both play the game. Many reserves played the second half because we have a short week until State on Thursday and Les needs the first string, including Lee, to have fresh legs and not be injured.
Since none of these stats have been updated yet I've had to compile them myself but here's how Lee stacks up against other SEC QB's over 2 games. Be aware I might have misread while compiling. JLee - LSU - 19/32 59.4%. 231 yards. 2 TD 0 INT. SGar - SC - 18/40 45%. 252 yards. 2 TD 2 INT. AMur - GA - 35/58 60.3%. 484 yards. 6 TD 2 INT. JBran - UF - 33/49 67.3%. 424 yards. 1 TD 2 INT. TWil - ARK - 36/50 72%. 516 yards. 3 TD 1 INT. AMcC - ALA - 35/54 64.8%. 389 yards. 2 TD 2 INT. CRel - MSST - 33/54 61.1%. 297 yards. 3 TD 1 INT. BTro - AUB - 33/46 71.7%. 401 yards. 5 TD 1 INT. MNew - KY - 16/36 44.4%. 211 yards. 2 TD 4 INT. TBray - TEN - 51/65 78.5%. 698 yards. 7 TD 0 INT. LSmi - VAN - 25/41 60.9%. 265 yards. 3 TD 1 INT. Zsto - MISS - 24/43 55.8%. 258 yards. 1 TD 0 INT. Other than Bray from Tenn, no QB in the SEC is really standing out above the rest. A few have more yards or a better % than Lee but Lee is 1 of only 3 QB's in the SEC that hasn't thrown a pick. Lee's stats also aren't padded by keeping him in the game against NWST like some of the other QB's I listed. Overall exactly what more do you want from Lee? I have a feeling if Lee had went 17/20 243 yards. 3 TD, we wouldn't be having this conversation. edit: forgot Ole Miss. Oops.
istlst would still claim his arm angle was off and his plant foot slightly rotated to the left
