Again, my point wasn't to pick on Mett. I like Mett and I was impressed by him. I want him to have play time and start for us when the time is right just like anyone does, as he's got an incredibly bright future here.. However the time is not now, nor will it be for the start of the game Thursday night. Miles is doing the right thing by easing him into the games a little at a time. If we're lucky we won't be put in a situation where he HAS to come in and take over (see also: Jarrett Lee in 2008).

I think at best you will see 2 QBs at times but I don't think we will see Mett start over Lee this year unless JL goes down and I know no one on this board wants that.

Enjoy Victory and let it all play out as the master pulls the strings !

And that's the exact same thing I've been saying here. It depends what you want. Some just want to win 10 games and are fine with it. With this team, this year, I surely am not.

Not sure why you posted that other than proving my point is consistent.

No disrespect to Lee, I have him helping us win 10 games. I think he'll play well enough to do that. But if we lose games like we did against Florida back in 09 with a score of 13-3, I'll be pissed.

Islstl, I'm usually behind you on most things you say and heck when I read this thread last night I wanted to post but I decided to sleep on it and come back objective when I woke up.

There's no doubt that Mettenberger has the mechanics to be a great QB. That was proven last year when he passed for 32TD's and over 2000 yards. I've seen all I have to see with Mettenberger too, to know we're gonna be good with him.

But there's a difference in knowing Mettenberger is the future and thinking he should be the starter now. I know it's sheer excitement at the possibility that we might actually have a gunslinger at QB that gets everyone's mouth watering. But please, take a step back and wait a bit.

Lee is the same kid that won us 2 if not 3 games last year ON HIS BACK. When the time came, he made the pass he needed to. Without Lee we're not going to the Cotton Bowl. We're not ranking #3 going into this season because we would have had a 7-5/8-4 type season last year. He's had just about everything a FB player could imagine happen to him. Sometimes he does look a little scared out that, but I think it's more because he's lost his gunslinger edge. It's been burned away.

The LAST thing I want to happen is for Mettenberger to lose his gunslinger edge due to the SEC gauntlet.

Lee is our guy unless injured. Mettenberger looks good and the future looks bright at the position. That feels VERY GOOD, after a VERY LONG time coming.

The longer Lee is the starter, the better his confidence, the last thing he needs on his mind is the possibility of Mettenberger stealing his position. You guys that want to anoint Mettenberger already because we'll "need" him remember, we'll "need" Lee too this season. Just like we did last season.

"Moving forward" is not my phrase of choice.

And I asked for 40 passes THIS GAME, to get both our QBs ready for SEC play.

Get your shyt straight, or just STFU.

Anyone with any football sense should realize that we need BOTH of these quarterbacks to be playing and playing well. We have had starting quarterbacks go down with injuries in most season in the last 10 years. We play in a rugged league. Jefferson got the lions share of the work with the 1st team all spring and summer. Les needs to get both Lee and Mettenberger in shape for the SEC and he's doing just that.

Lee threw for 90% which is fine. He switched to his secondary receiver several times and he did not telegraph his plays. He can read defenses and manage an offense. He's a senior leader with the confidence of his coaches and teammates.

Mettenberger stands tall in the pocket and has a nice touch. He's clearly on his way to a fine career. Is he ready to be thrown into the game with the pressure of a championship season on him? Probably not. He's going to be brought along at his own speed and he's lucky to have Lee around to share the load or he could end up with a season like Lee had in 2008.

We don't need another season of fans bickering about which QB should be playing. Les wants to redshirt the promising freshmen and Heaven knows that we don't want to count on either of them this season. We have them both and we need them both and Les is going to play them both.

    Get used to it.

Maybe you are a realists ... but from your post over the last two years I've been reading .. I'd say you are more of an antagonists towards Lee.

You have a hang up about Lee throwing off his back foot. You've already mentioend it twice in this thread. But a "realists" would realize that there are people who do well with unorthodox methods. Lee Travino had an unorthodox swing .. a guy like you would have said he would never make it as a pro golfer ... but make it he did.

There's another "realists" point. Lee's mechanics are not what got him in the dog house. He played well in 2008 EXCEPT .. he through too many ints, including 7 pick 6s. Those kind of mistakes are the type associated with inexperience. Here we are 4 years later, and it seems you consider Metts Mechanics .. which are fantastic, to trump Lee's experience.

It would be sad if CLM throws Met out there too early, and he ends up getting frustrated because of his lack of experince in the SEC. Mett is no doubt the future of the LSU offense ... and, in time, he will no doubt be better than Lee ...... but ....

I think Lee should start right up until Mett proves over time that he is the answer. Lee was 9/10 last night .. Mett was 8/11. The measure of success is not in how you look, the mechanics of it all ...but in the final numbers.

Mett needs to get as many snaps as LSU can afford. He needs that experience reading SEC defenses. Lord knows, I don't want him comming back next year with the same Monkey on his shoulders that Lee has had for the last 4 years. People just like you, who find something you don't like .. and refuse to let it go. Lee can win the NC, and deep in your heart, he will still suck, and that Mett was robbed of chance to win the NC, and that CLM was an idiot for even letting Lee be the side line.

Bottom Line .. yes, Mett looked great .. he will be great .. but there is no need to diss Lee ... he did well last night. Given that CLM's strategy is a ground and pound strategy, and he has the backs to do it ... Lee has done just fine this season so far .... no need to put yet another monkey on his back ... that monkey being ... "we can't wait to replace you with Mett".

This team is playing lights out football. I haven't had to pop one Zantac while watching the offense this year. I haven't thrown one thing at the TV because they can't get the play in on time. I haven't utter one curse word because the offense looks so confused and befuddled. I'm lovin' me some Jarrett Lee (and Mettenberger). I'm loving me some Ford and Ware. I'm lovin' me some Simon, Coleman, and Mathieu. I'm lovin' that OL and DL. I'M LOVIN' ME SOME TIGERS! Sorry, I just can't find anything to whine about.
