Well, now Saban's friend is saying "new coach". We've got several factions relative to replacement: Davis - Skip Petrino - ex players and money guys Del Rio - real interested (from New Orleans) Slocum - Okeefe (what a joke!!!) I hope we have an double press conference saying goodbye and hello on tomorrow on Wednesday. BTW - Nick Saban was my hero - seriously. I am so crushed by this episode. Especially hearing that this whole thing has been in the works for many months. If something were to somehow happen and the deal falls through, the only way it would be okay for Nick to stay is for him to come real clean and tell the whole truth. But, it appears it's a done deal and he did a lot for us. However, he could have been honest and left differently. He is not the same hero just for that reason. He was not completely honest. I'm crushed.
Word is that the Board of Supervisors want more control of the situation this time around. That should be the perfect ticket to going back to the Hallman days.
I have just spoken with Crawfish...I will compose a new thread with this information as he's relaying it to me on his cellphone right now...He's away from the PC...
I'd love Del Rio if he was really interested. I didn't foresee that because I thought he was happy at Jax. He has a great young team, with a good QB and is even in the playoff hunt in his 2nd year.
Trust me, Del Rio is interested - he was interested last time but didn't have the credentials he has this time around... Jack Del Rio – he has roots in Louisiana and maintains a home in New Orleans. His wife is a Louisiana native and his eldest daughter is an LSU alumna. He has won a Super Bowl Ring, coached one of the games all-time best in Ray Lewis, he has drafted and developed one of the NFL’s brightest young stars in Julius Peppers, and he has made a name for himself. Although it would require leaving behind a much improved team that is gaining momentum and establishing their identity, Jack Del Rio is one of the few guys around with a firsthand understanding of what this job means and how big of a deal it is – what I’m getting at is the fact that Del Rio can understand and comprehend the long-term benefits of the LSU job that will far outweigh anything the NFL can ultimately offer him. He is one, if not the only, NFL head coach with job security that would see the LSU job as a better opportunity and a step up for the long haul. The man is young, fearless, hard working, intense, defense-minded, a player favorite and one hell of a coach with credibility on every level (he played in college, he played in the NFL, and he’s coached in the NFL). If Jack Del Rio came to Baton Rouge he would be committed to LSU for as long as LSU would be committed to him.
