What did we know about those guys after a year and a half? Zippo. Time will tell if he can manage a program for 5 or 6 years as well as those guys. But at the same point in their careers, Les Miles is blowing those coaches away. None of them had 11 wins and an SECCG appearance in his rookie year. We must let Les Miles actually fail before we condemn him. To do so right now is impatient, ill-timed, unjustified and WAY premature.

Says who? Two of LSU's current five classes were recruited by Miles, you know. And Miles went 11-2 with the team that Nick went 9-3 with.

Blue Chip recruits are lining up for Les Miles. He has averaged 3.69 stars a recruit since he has been here, about the same that Nick averaged. We are lining up another good class right now.

Sure it sucks, but only a lunatic AD would run out and fire the coach after one very close loss on the road to a top-2 team. Look, amigo, LSU is going to lose some more games this year. We still have to play another top-10 team on the road and then two more that may finish in the top-20--all on the road! Next year LSU has all those teams at home with Virginia Tech, too and it is a schedule made for a Championship run.

But this year, we are going to lose a couple. Even Nick never lost less than 3 games in even numbered years.

Some of you young guys never sat through 8 losing seasons in the 90's. You don't appreciate what we've got. I know what a bad coach looks like. I know what bad recruiting looks like. We don't have either.

Try to understand. LSU is not going to go undefeated every year. We haven't done it since 1958. We are still going to be a top-10 team going to a BCS bowl and what the hell is wrong with that?

kveille --- your post bears trademarks of someone under the age of 25; if not, certainly 35. Experience is merely the addition of another candle when your birthday comes around.

I was waiting to see if anyone would comment on what I consider the MAIN difference between the performances of SC and LSU vs AU.

IMHO, it was the TYPE of QB used in each game. LSU has an experienced JR who possesses all the qualities of a pro-type quarterback except one - the ability to effectively SCRAMBLE. In true Monday morning quarterbacking hindsight, I would have either started Matt Flynn or put him in on the series after our interception in the first half. He offers the accuracy needed from a QB and a Fran Tarkington kind of scrambling ability to avoid the result of the 2nd-to-last play of the game vs Auburn. Not that he would have changed the final result, mind you.

Look up the stats of last night's game (South Carolina vs Auburn) and see how many attempts the QB had rushing --- read, SCRAMBLING. Oh, BTW, he did start the season at WR I do believe.

Those of us fortunate enough to have played sports during the 50s and 60s remember SEC football and Fran Tarkington (Georgia) and Roger "the dodger" Staubach (Navy) on the gridiron.

Why is it that your QB of choice is more than likely in the eyes of the beholder rather than exploiting the weakness of the opposition? Coaches have to make THEIR choice just like you or I.

    :geauxtige  LSU! :eek:ldskule:

P.S. My #2 sister and her husband live in the San Jose area (Los Altos) and both are LSU grads from the early 1960s. I'm one of six siblings who are LSU alumni and PROUD OF IT! PERIOD!

    Kvielle--
Man I gotta jump on the bandwagon here. Calling for Miles to be fired after watching South Carolina lose to Auburn is absurd. We lost to Auburn at Auburn by 4 points and your faults with the gameplan/coaching are pure speculation. Hey, I am not completely sold on Miles yet either. But you can't even consider firing someone who has only lost three games in two years.

All three of the losses under Miles have come to teams ranked in the top #10.

Agreed..... man, that's just crazy talk :nope: For the life of me, I cannot understand why any real LSU fans would be questioning the great shape your program is in. Everybody in the conference knows LSU is THE team to beat right now...... and that's not blowin' smoke or anything else. You have positive, NATIONAL exposure, a solid, predictable pattern of winning, and you're earning respect as one of the toughest teams in CFB.

Hey, Saban was THE MAN, but it's foolish to think that Miles cannot successfully build on the legacy. Has the program EVER been in better shape?

Caddy, that was a great post, and no, I don't think LSU's football team has ever been in this great of a position--at least not in my 36 years.

See you guys later. I'm off to Chicago for a family vacation!

you said "Last night Steve Spurrier played Auburn and should have won"

You say that like Steve Spurrier is some idiot who used to coach high school fooball and isnt the guy who put together one of the most offensivly dominating programs in college football history? You say this like its a tragedy that Steve Spurrier may have come up with a better game plan than les miles. He hasnt had the talent at USC but cant deny that he's probably gonna have a better Offensive gameplan then les.

    1) Last night was a very good indication of how hard it is to win on the road in the SEC.

    2) The talk around here is that AU struggled because of having players slowed down by injuries. Guess who injured them. Auburn will be feeling the the LSU game for a few more weeks. The Plainsmen know how fortunate they were to win that game.

    3) Abandoning the run is crazy. Here is my philosophy of offense: Pass when you want to, run when you have to, attack the entire field. LSU under Fisher has done that--I can't complain. And yes, my qualifications for saying this are just as good as Buddy Songy's and Jimmy Ott's--I'm a fan.

    4) Lots of talk around after the Auburn game was that Muschamp had "schooled" Fisher. Baloney! Russell throws the last pass in the end zone (like Miles was telling him) and everyone would be calling Muschamp a chump for his prevent defense and AU fans would be complaining about the no call on Bowe's interference. Sometimes things just don't go your way.

    5) If Les Miles was a jerk, was totally wasting talent, had a team out of control or didn't care if his players went to class, I would be first on the list to have him fired. The reality is that Miles is a class guy, wins with the talent he has, has a team that shows a lot of class in winning and upholds academic standards (as far as any of us can tell). That means I am glad to have him as coach, as of right now.
