1. who gives a crap.Lsu deseved to fall the way they played on friday. Also UT and USC are going to win out so it doesnt matter. :geauxtige
  2. I tend to agree that LSU deserved to lose it´s slim lead over PSU in the harris poll, or at the very least lose most of it´s lead, so this is no surprise....last week, however, was inexplicable.

LSU has no mathematical way to pass PSU at this point. The projections I gave assumed LSU would be placed ahead of PSU by EVERY voter in both the coaches and harris polls. And even then it was going to be a stretch to do it with the computer polls being our problem. So now LSU can maybe hope to get back to where they were in last weeks harris poll, where they held a slim lead (but only with a sound beating of Georgia). In this event, our computer rankings will not near close enough to edge PSU in the final BCS rankings.

Just let USC and UT duke it out, they are heads above the rest of the collegiate football world.
  3. Notice UGA did not move up a bit by beating #22 GT at GT. So I would not bet on us moving up if/when we beat UGA in Atlanta.
  4. Lets turn this around. If LSU was through playing and Penn St. barely beat Indiana, do you think LSU would jump Joe Pa?:dis:
There was once an old wise tale: It is all about when you lose. If you start out high in the polls and lose early, you will be okay.
I guess that is just a bunch of B***S***.
I am sick of polls and computer rankings, we need a playoff.
  5. What will it take to revamp this system? Obviously it was designed by "braniac" engineers with NO understanding of the game of football. I know that a lot of us (notice I included myself in that statement) like to think that the SEC is the toughest conference--and with reason--but I think it's idiotic to use such an assessment to rank where a team stands. What the hell is with the Big 10 getting MAJOR props from the computers for being a "tough conference?" That is not right. You could conceivably say the same about any of the BCS major conferences. Penn State is a good team, no doubt, but there is just WAY too much speculation with this system. We all know this and have been knowing this for some time. I hate to say it, but a play-off is the ONLY efficient and fair way to determine a champion.

Also, I hate it when the "talking heads" keep talking about how "sloppy" our win over Arkansas was. B*ll-Sh*t! It's a rivalry game (or atleast it was intended to be,) and regardless, Ark sees this game as their "one shot chance to redeem themselves after a tough year." It is surprising to me because, after all, it was Ark who advanced to the SECCG in 2002 after a last second miracle wasn't it? *rhetorical question here* They should obviously know that Arkansas and Ole Miss have become annual neccessities for us to reach Atlanta. You could say that about every rivalry in the NCAA too. That is why computers don't work! There are WAY too many variables that cannot be factored in no matter what you try! Human polls are no better since their opinions are often times skewed by what the media says... Anyway, I'm rambling here... but this is so frustrating. How do you keep the bowl-game-appeal but with a true-champion-type-playoff?
  6. The ONLY WAY to rank conferences is by their records against other conferences. Intraconference records go out the window.

    http://www.colleyrankings.com/curconf.html

We are being hurt very badly by the interconference records of the bottom tier SEC teams. Sucks...but Kentucky should have never lost to Indiana and Vandy should really never have lost to MTSU. The other losses I can live with.

Playoffs are never going to happen. You need to understand that and stop whining because plugging W-L's into a computer is the only way to get meaningful rankings.

7 dropped passes? Tripping over turf? Penalties? Leaving fullbacks wide open for long gains on trick plays? What's not sloppy about that? Our offense sputtered all day and looked like chit. Had nothing much to do with Ark's effort.

There is no way to keep the bowl game tradition and still have playoffs. Playoffs reduce the importance of the regular season and relegate lesser bowls to obscurity.
  7. We can fly to space, but can't figure out a playoff system that incorporates the bowl system. Go figure!:hihi:

It's not complicated. The first step will be a plus one game, and I think that'll happen in the next few years. We'll just tack on a championship game a week after the bowls.

The next step will be expanding to 8 teams. That will be met with much more resistance by the NCAA and the bowl system.

I keep hearing that, but yet every sport known to man has some sort of playoff. If a playoff reduces the importance of each game, then why aren't we yelling for a BCS type system for the NFL, as well as all the other sports?
  8. It's not about figuring out a playoff system. 0 of the university presidents want a playoff system. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.

I am not against the playoffs. I am playing devil's advocate here for all of you who are convinced it will happen.
  9. Whoa that was hostile for a pretty even-keel serious remark, but whatever. Had nothing to do with Arkansas' effort? And you know that how? Were you in their heads? I'm not saying it was a sure thing, but of course it was possible. LSU's bad play CAN be caused by another team's hunger to win, that is why we play the games. LSU played sloppy, sure they did! But you have to remember that when you take players out of their comfort-zones, you expose their vulnerability. JR hasn't been that erratic all season, why? Because Arkansas was getting to him. Once LSU had to start adjusting, Arkansas gained the momentum. It's not a conspiracy man, it's just football!
  10. Probably won't happen. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't. Nowhere else on earth can you win every game in a season, dominate every game, and still not have a chance to play for the championship of your sport.
