Never heard of potato salad in gumbo - ever. Granted, I'm not from a place that I would relate to I-10. I'm from N.O., and nobody I know ever did that.

 

I-10 runs right through New Orleans. How long have you been gone?

 

I realize that, amigo, but I say "I'm from New Orleans", not "I'm from a place the I-10 runs through", LOL.

 

I'm from Baton Rouge but somehow the talk got turned to whether you live north or south of I-10 whether or not you put potato salad in your gumbo.

(And I was from just north of 1-10 in Baton Rouge; my parents eat potato salad with their gumbo, but not in it.)

 

There is nothing wrong with potato salad as a side dish with gumbo. I don't remember ever having it but who knows. I don't remember every meal I ever ate. When I eat gumbo I usually eat gumbo alone or with a salad. Or maybe as part of a seafood platter dinner.

You don't like potato salad because of the eggs, right? You do know that you can either buy or make potato salad without the eggs.
