Isreal vs. Hamas...Get ready for hell to break loose

It comes down to the 'holy land' and who owns it. Israel offered some of this land in the past but Arafat walked out on the deal. The only resolution is a Palestinian state alongside a secured Israel with both having some semblance of Jerusalem as their capital. Some kind of reformations has to be in place for those Palestinians removed in the 60's (i think) when Israel reestablished itself as a state.

Arafat is to blame here for the wars and bombings...not the Israelis.

 

land is owned by whoever has the power to take and keep it. otherwise you are picking some arbitrary point in history as the moment to define who owns land.

i dont buy that the israelis are not to blame. i dont see why they have any more claim to the land than the palestinians. zionism is racism and all zionists are morons. there is no such thing as an ancient homeland that belongs to any particular genetically or culturally similar group. the jews have no such claim on anything.

there is no tribal or religious or political or cultural birthright to any holy land. the whole idea that holy land exists is moronic to the point of imbecility.

 

agree... I was overly simplistic in my statement to make a point but so is your view that one doesn't have a right to the land above the other. Obviously, its much deeper than that and biblically, Israel was 'endorsed' by Jesus to them....at least that is their belief. I guess its not ours to judge but it is a mess and I'm not sure there will ever be resolution.


What if Indians (umm, native americans) started bombing us for their land back? Is that just an arbitrary point in time or do we really have a right to this land?

The Palestinians don't need a state, if they had one they'd be at war with Isreal 24/7. What they need is missles flown up their asses till they shut up.

They come and go as they please if peaceful and they worship ALI if they choose. Last time I checked the ONLY thing they aren't getting is some land they claim. WELL GUESS what? People have been pushing people off their land for as long as this Earth has spun. Remember the Sioux, Apache, Blackfoot indians? What about the Celts and the Norsemen? Miss Rice was hedging when she said everyone needs to step back and calm down. This was a planned political statement. She would have REALLy gotten her ass in a ringer if she said, " I think the isrealis should bomb the be jesus out of them" The left wing press would have halted to get that on the front page. Then zoom the lawsuits and dismissals would ensue because We are TOO FREAKIN POLITICALLY CORRECT.

and yes, Rice's lame comment jumped out at me also. She is far too intelligent to have that come out of her mouth w/o a reason. She is an unbelievable speaker and one of the most impressive people I have heard. I would vote her in for president if on the ballot. She used to be our expert on Russia and long time Moscow 'watcher'. She declared them a threat during the cold war and even after she took office as advisor I do believe. They didn't take it lightly.

 

hmm, my point about nobody having more right to the land than another was probably is a bit simplistic. what i mean is that i dont see why one's tribal ancestry entitles anyone to anything. for instance if i was born to american jews, so i have rights to israeli holy lands by virtue of my genetic (or even my religious?) similarity to other jews? of course not. i am not entitled to land purely because of my race/ethnicity.

if i were jewish or palestinian i would renounce the tribalism of my culture. i don't associate with any group based on accident of birth. i would hope that no matter where i was born i would have the good sense to want to be american (or at least canadian or a british fan of tony blair.). i know for sure i have no special sentimentality for the irish and germans i was descended from. when people grow up and stop acting like tribalistic cavemen battling over "holy" places there will be alot less violence.

There are great debates about the Biblical fact of what land is whose as well as historical debates in the secular society. Bottom line is these cats hate each other and because we are not a muslim country they hate us too. We will back the jew's even is Mrs. Rice makes stupid canned remarks like she made today. I agree with the respondents that say untie the jewish hands. We have been trying to handle terrorist on the wrong level. You will not stop them by studying them and searching grandma while she tries to board a plane. There probably is no answer on how to stop it but if these folks get blown up in pizza parlors, at weddings, on buses etc. Go Israel hopefully we will not find ourself in this position on our soil. But if we do how many people would THEN favor firing 3 missels at the leader of the group.

Isreal has a deck of cards out this morning for Hamas and other terrorists like
we had in Iraq and for Al-Quada.
They say they aren't slowing down on killing or going after these people.
I say its about time, I hope they kill everyone of them including any palestinian that gets in the way.
I don't know any other region of the world where they train their kids to become suicide bombers.

While I am against terrorism, it is not like Isreal has been innocent. When they got the land in the sixties, they pushed millions of refugees into camps. Ok happens all the time, throughout history. Then the Isreali's led by Ariel Sharon killed 3,000 men, women and children at a the Palestinian refugee camp Shabra. He also led an preemptive attack against the camp of Chatila. This is what I am against. I agree that Isreal should secure their own country, but at the cost of treating the Palestinians as second-class citizens, sub-human in some cases? Cutting of water supply to Palestinian neighborhoods, shoot anything first and ask no questions later also was a policy of theirs in the 80's. If you listen to people from the region, this is what they are complaining about, and this is what leads to the hatred. Jews and Palestinians on both sides are growing tired of this conflict, they just want peace. It is those on both sides who do not want to compromise that make the situation more difficult. In reality, all Arab and Muslim terrorism can be traced to what seems like blind devotion to the Isreali cause by America, at least to the average Arab. This, along with some foriegn policy mistakes imo(1953 coup of Iran one example) and the Arabs and Muslims themselves choosing the wrong side in the cold war have compounded the situation. Hopefully a peaceful resolution can be reached in my lifetime.
