It's possible. What will need to happen is Auburn will probably have to come in first in all the computers, or they will need to close the gap in the human polls with Oklahoma a little more before the end of the season. Basic rule: for every spot you are behind in the human polls, you need to be twice as many spots ahead in the computers.
I would prefer to see Wisconsin win it all this year. These guys are tough and would run over USC. Plus they are in the same position LSU was in last year.
OU has Nebraska at home this weekend, then travels to Baylor. Then, they'll likely play a pretty mediocre team in the Big XII CCG. It is very doubtful that they will lose. Ya never know, though. A couple of weeks ago, all of the so-called "experts" were saying that there would be at least five undefeated teams at the end of the season and that, of them, Miami was the most likely to be undefeated. Then, they promptly lost not just once, but twice! My hope is that every team except Utah and Boise lose a game. That would be awesome! Then, who plays in the Orange Bowl?!!! :geaux:
Texastigers, are you a tea-sip? Seems all I ever see posted by you are gleeful comments regarding A&M's loss to Baylor! Texas A&M is my second favorite team since I did grad school there. As a matter of fact, my three favorite teams, in order, are: 1. LSU 2. Texas A&M 3. The team playing texas University in any given week! Or, perhaps you are a Baylor fan? I couldn't believe A&M lost to Baylor! That was a shocker. But, hey, upsets happen every year. Remember LSU-UAB? Miami got beat by N. Carolina, which has one more win than Baylor. Florida lost to Miss State, which lost to MAINE and has the same # of wins as Baylor. Virginia is a pretty good team, but they got spanked by a Florida State team that couldn't beat Maryland, which has a losing record! A&M was, obviously, looking ahead to OU last week, and Baylor played way over their heads. They went for the two point conversion and the win, and - credit their coaches and players - they got it. They knew they had to, for there was very little chance they would be able to win otherwise. Okay, I feel better, having taken up for my Aggies! :geaux: , GIG 'EM, and BEAT THE HE!! OUT OF texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These 2 teams could go undefeated all they want and they will not be the number one team in the nation. JMO
The question is, which of the one loss teams would make it to the Orange Bowl? I don't know enough about how the computer "polls" work, but I would think that Utah would have a legitimate shot. Here's a partial list of teams they've beaten so far: Texas A&M: gave OU all they could handle and could still beat ut Arizona: sure, they suck, but they barely lost to Wisconsin New Mexico: probable bowl team that beat Texas Tech, which clobbered Baylor, which beat A&M North Carolina: beat Florida State and Ga. Tech UNLV: won at BYU, who beat almighty notre dame, who won AT rocky top I would LOVE to see Boise and Utah be the only undefeateds! Which one loss teams would go to the OB? Georgia? Cal? ut, which didn't even play for its conference championship? Perhaps, OU gets in again after losing its CCG, AGAIN? Perhaps the AP voters' love affair with USC would keep them at #1, even though they lost to, say, UCLA? Or, would, perhaps, Michigan be one of the two one loss (assuming they beat osu) teams to get the nod, since they lost their one game the earliest (which is usually the right prescription to be ranked the highest) but are currently ranked behind Texas, Cal and Georgia? USC, OU, AU, and Wisconsin all losing in the last week or two would generate SO much discussion and controversy. It would be awesome! Man, I hope it happens! :geaux: Geaux Bruins! Geaux Huskers!! Geaux Dawgs!!! Geaux Spartans!!!!!
Yes, I think USC is severely over-rated. While they are definately a Top5 program, I do not think they would be undefeated if they played in any other BCS conference. People forget that, in addition to playing in the weakest BCS conference this side of the Big East, USC also benefits from not playing a CCG. I'm not saying they or the Big 11 should be penalized for this, but I do believe teams that do and win should be given bonus points in the BCS system. USC may just win their CCG if they had one, but they would still have that extra game on their schedule and anything can happen, as it did with the B-12 last year.
Auburn is still not out of it yet.....even if USC and OU goes undefeated. Auburn not only needs to win Georgia, they need to beat them by at least 2 touchdowns. Auburn needs 8 votes in the AP and 12 in the Coaches poll.....that or vise versa, I can't remember. So, if Auburn shows up and whoops Georgia this weekend, it's highly possible that they will jump OU to the #2 spot, even if OU puts 50 on the board. Myself.....I'm going to pull for them.
i don't think there is any way that AU jumps OU. Voters are very reluctant to drop an undefeated team that keeps winning. I, myself, hope ALL of the undefeateds lose! :geaux: GEAUX Huskers! GEAUX Bruins!! GEAUX Dawgs!!! GEAUX Spartans!!!!
