So then I assume you'd be just as mad if he said the same thing while still the coach at LSU?

I still think it speaks to his character. Classic. Ingratiating himself to his new friends by making jokes about his old friends. What 13 year old girl hasn't done it.

I dont like the way some people are offended by this because being laid back is a typical trait of Louisianians that I pride my state and myself in. Who cares, really? I mean if the guy is as evil as he he is (or some want to believe) then why should I raise my blood pressure over it? Im not going to. Its alot the same situation as when USC fans/players were making fun of us in 2003-2004. Getting worked up about it is only letting them win. I may be young but I have learned quickly that life is too short to get worked up over such trivial things that we will have forgotten in twenty years.

Atleast thats my two bits on the matter take it or leave it...

Actually, I hated that movie, and I felt it did negatively portray Louisiana to the rest of the country. The movie came out around the time that I moved to Dallas, and I was greeted with references to "The Waterboy" all the time. It was not uncommon for people to meet me, find out where I'm from (because I'm extremely proud of being a Louisiana native), and say, "But you sound so educated..."

Well, someone is missing the point . . .

Saban wasn't issuing a statement. It was an off-the-record joke that someone illegally taped without his knowledge. It was funny. I feel the same way that ditchdigger does. I used his joke at the coffee shop this morning and got laughs. My Cajun accent is way better than Nick's.

Your constant hate for Saban is getting kind of disturbing, mon ami.

I gotta agree with red, here. Maybe you heard a different clip, but I found it somewhat difficult to comprehend what, exactly, he was saying, making it even harder to discern any type of condescending tone in his voice. But to me, it didn't sound like he was being disrespectful at all.

Again, this is getting way more blown out of proportion than it needs to be. Some people just need to get over the fact that Saban is no longer our head coach and is now the head coach for a rival program. Does that suck? Sure. But is it the end of the world? Absolutely not.

I heard the tone, and while I cannot say I fully endorse blackjack's every word, I do believe there is merit to his post.

Oh, and another thing. Charlie told Nick about some "...old man". Nick turns the old man into a coonass down in a ditch.

I live in Mobile and listen to the Afternoon Sports Drive with Neal McCready on WNSP. I guess they were the first station to really make a big deal about what Saban said. They've also maid huge deals about the shirts he's been seen wearing to basketball games and so forth. The point is is that they thrive on making nothing into something and that's exactly what this may be. With that said, they really have a great show.

If the statement is indeed real, here's my thoughts:
The Saban comment is not a huge deal if your a coonass. The Saban comment is a huge deal if you are Mal Moore, on the Board at UA, a parent of a recruit and a fan of UA football. Although it was a joke, it shows the lack of class the head of your football team has. I don't think this is how the U of A would like to be represented. I also don't think that a parent would be thrilled about sending their kid to play football for a man that wishes to conduct himself in this manner. It shows how little respect he has for LSU as a school and as a football program.

Second of all, it proves that Saban is nothing more than a molder. Yeah, the comment is funny if you're a redneck living in the woods of Alabama or a coonass with a sense of humor but it's not funny to a lot of people that care about the appearance and the way in which their program is run. I believe it shows that Saban will say and do anything to have the folks surrounding him warm up to him.

Lastly, I just heard this morning that one of Saban's hopefuls, Michael McNeil from Mobile is heading to Auburn. Saban was at his highschool just a few weeks back and would have thought the Messiah had returned. It sure was nice to hear McNeil is headed to Auburn. So much for Saban being the savior of UA's program.
