I did not vote for Bush. With each day that passes, I feel even better about that. However, he IS our president and I do support him 100%.
The thread is about Bush. Start a new one if you want to discuss other presidents failings. Clinton again . . . its 2007, Man. The topic is Bush. Can you possibly be unaware of the prestige we had in before and after the liberation of Kuwait? We put together an huge coalition that inlcluded Syria and Egypt. Sole Superpower. What appeasement have we done? What in the world are you talking about? You realize that germany, japan, spain, britain and mexico were once our enemies, but now are friendly. Having enemies is a liability. You don't read the news much, do you Dude? Rice, Putin Trade Cold War Words Back to the Cold War - Putin's Russia threat to Britain Putin threatens to target Europe with missiles Every previous President has made attempts to bring peace to Palestine, but Bush simply abdicated and the situation is worse than it has ever been. Do you not realize that this conflict is the basis of all of our problems in the middle east? It is absolutely in our interests that it be settled. They surely were when it tanked in 2002! It took five years for everybody to get their profits back. very sucessful. North Korea only exploded a nuclear device when Bush was mired in Iraq. Nice timing, huh? Are you defending this administration's illegal alien policy, then? Once more, the subject is Bush and what he has done which is pathetically little. The alien invasion has never been worse. Examples? Name one. Absolute bullchit. The nineties was a complete economic boom which tanked a year after Bush took office. It was the dot.com bubble bursting. What Clinton policy are you talking about? If China ever dumps its dollars and Treasury notes it could ruin us. spending more than we take in is a waste. We spend $120 billion a year in interest payments on our national debt, mostly going to China. I think not. Everybody is ready. Funny, you are not the person I would have expected to be a Bush apologist, Dude.
Of course this thread is about Bush. You list Bush's scandals as an embarrassment and the implication is that this is something new and horrible with this president. It isn't. I don't condone bad behavior by pointing to similar bad behavior, but this slam on Bush is pointless because it is common place in many of our presidents. You tell me not to go back in administrations to prove my point, and then you go even further back. Make up your mind. In order to argue against a loss of prestige, the level of prestige must be established. That requires going back to the previous administration. You also change the measuring stick from international prestige to the international coalition in Kuwait - a war effort. I am not unaware of the differences between the two Iraq wars, but I don't attribute the general hatred the world holds against us to be the sole responsibility of this president. If you think the world really wanted to cuddle with us before, keep thinking that. I was not referring to our appeasement(though Clinton did plenty), but the rest of the world and it's attitude towards terrorism. We don't appease therefor we have lost allies. I stated so clearly. Check the news and you will see multiple examples of such. That's just funny. Of course enemies are a liability, but I'm glad you used those countries as examples. We kicked the crap out of all of them. They became our allies, on our terms, not the other way around. Our enemies in the future will have to do the same. Sure I read the papers. You imply that papers don't give sensational headlines in order to draw their readers in? Since you lived through some of the cold war, I would expect you to see the difference between now and then. Cold war is a gross exaggeration, regardless of what reporter uses it. Attempts don't equate success. Every policy has failed miserably. I am also fully aware that this is one of our problems in the Middle East and possibly the biggest. It is in everyone's best interest that it be settled, but it won't be settled peaceably. You can hope for it all you want but that does not change the reality. Go ahead and explain to me how Sunnis and Shiites will live peaceably together in the future. That won't happen either. I have not been slumping for five years and doubt anyone else has. If you think Clinton's economic policies were solely responsible for the 90's and Bush's are solely responsible for the 2000's, then I doubt I will change your mind. There are plenty of economists to argue/prove both sides. Again your implication is that Korea started and developed this technology under Bush's watch and nobody else's. That is false. The Taliban and Osama bin Laden also didn't start under Bush but he had to pay the bill. Guess we should blame him for this too. I think it is fallacious to punish Bush for his inaction on a subject that all previous presidents have failed on as well. Regardless, something more has been done and is being done to change policy, more so than in any other administration. Note the National Guard is on our border. Is the situation fixed? Far from it, but steps are being taken to improve it. The situation is not worse, it finally has gotten the proper amount of attention. Eamples of solid cabinet choices? How about Colin Powell, Elaine Chao, Condoleezza Rice? I could go on, but your question implies that you think they are all failures. I disagree. The dot.com bubble was not the only reason for us tanking. Again, plenty of economists do not agree on this subject of who was at fault. I am of the mindset that taxes are bad, more $ in my pocket means more investment $, which means more growth and more jobs. Crazy how that has happened. Clinton liked taxes, Bush doesn't. My economic situation is better under Bush. If we ever get out of the Iraq war, I expect it to continue unless some tax me to death Democrat gets elected. Again, I am simply not worried about our international debt. Perhaps history will prove me to be wrong....or not. I don't consider myself an apologist of Bush. I see some glaring shortcomings of his, and sadly, the Iraq war may be his overshadowing legacy, but this thread was not about the war. Even so, for several years I woke up and thanked God that neither Gore nor Kerry got elected, as much for economics as their foreign policies. It would be nice if national politics inspired the best and the brightest but this isn't the case. Bush is our president and has been so for two terms now. Excluding the Iraq war, I am pleased with his overall performance.
I don't think there is a chance that anyone will remember Bush for anything other than 9/11 and the Iraq war. That's going to be his legacy. His performance on domestic issues has been truly disappointing. To my dismay, he has sided with big government spending on such programs as No Child Left Behind and the Prescription Drug Program. He is also on the wrong side of the immigration issue. Tax cuts were good, but he didn't make them permanent. No chance of that happening now with the dems in control of Congress. I liked the Social Security reform ideas, but in typical government fashion, nothing will get done until we reach the critical stage. Never thought I'd see a worse President than Jimmy Carter in my lifetime. Unless something changes over the next 18 months, Jimmy will have some company.
During a recent trip to Western Europe, I discovered just how much they hate Bush over there. On two distinct occasions, I believe that it may have prevented me from getting laid. This is completely unacceptable.
Too easy to blame Bush for all the world's ills. Makes for good copy but to lay it all at his feet ......., other people also make decisions that helped define the world stage. Bush isn't the be all, end all. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,277492,00.html Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek accused Russia on Sunday of misleading the public about the planned missile defense bases in the Czech Republic and Poland to hide Russia's internal problems. "Russia needs an outside enemy to hide problems at home," Topolanek said.
