public health care would have not made it any easier for bill cosby to find this elite and expensive doctor for his mom.

Exactly, it would have made it to where no one could have found this doctor in time.

The existence of the US Postal Service has not collapsed UPS or FedEx or any of the other private carriers.

Each has its advantages and people can choose between them or a combination of services from all of them. Federal and private insurance could work the same way. Federal insurance would get you basic care and prevent you from being dropped. Private insurance would give you more care options depending on what you want to pay, but they can drop you like a rock if it's in their interest to do so.

I was laid off this last March. I was with my previous employer for over six years. The company actually shut their doors after 100 years of being in business. I was unemployed for exactly zero days. Before my last day of employment with my previous company, I secured the position I have with my current employer. I took a cut in pay to 1) stay employed, 2) provide insurance for my family, and 3) to not have to live off the backs of others. Please excuse me if I fail to feel sorry for anyone red. There are plenty of jobs out there where people can earn decent pay as long as they have minimum job skills..., if they lack these skills then it's their fault. Was I a little lucky? Sure, but only with how quickly I found a position. I never doubted my ability to go to work with someone else and never once thought that I would be on unemployment or without health insurance.

As far as your relative who was widowed..., I feel bad for her but there should have been preparations made to prevent her circumstances from happening. We all have responsibilities for our families. I'm 35 , and if I died today my wife and family would be taken care of. My wife would need to take out insurance, but the finances would be taken care of. What exactly did a farmer think would happen to his family if he died?

My uncle worked for International Paper for close to thirty years also. He was laid off a few years ago. He had four children in school at the time. He spent a few weeks thinking about his options and decided to go into business for himself. He now owns a successful heating and air business and is doing fine. This is America red. Anyone can make it as long as they're willing to work hard and live a decent life. And as amazing as it might sound, we can live just fine without the overbearing support of the federal government.

FYI the postal service only exists because it has a government enforced monopoly on mail. it is illegal to send a first class letter with anyone else. they are also losing money and far worse than UPS and fedex. the USPS is utterly and completely unnecessary. if they went away our service would be better and cheaper.

to make a comparison to public health care, you would have to force people to use them in the same sense that people are forced to use the postal service, by legally mandated monopoly.
