If he decides to go pro, he will be drafted high in the first round. NFL scouts drool at strong arms and his is the strongest in college this year. He also makes better decisions than people give him credit for. The 4th qtr interceptions today were balls that Bowe has both hands on. The first would have been a first down and the second would have been a TD.

His success at the next level totally depends on the coaching he gets. I would not be surprised if he goes pro this year.

Miss St is not the level as Aub and Fla. What team do we play next that has the same talent as these two teams have . None I hope we are 0 and 2 against top 10 teams !!! That is not coaching it is the players !!! The have to want to win !! This team looks good against no talent teams , Super Arm throws it high and long what happened today ?? You cannot win with Back yard football in the SEC! For some reason most of the fans seem to think the long ball is the great play . Got to hang onto the ball run the defense in the ground , this Tiger team does look like the Vols of Last year ,don't they !! This is not a Sleeping Tiger this one is lazy!!

My point is that Russell will go high in the draft, no matter how he does for the rest of the season. The pros look more at ability than winning. Look at John Elway--he never had a winning season in college, but went #1 in the draft. Only late in his career was he able to win the "big game" Or look at Jeff George--he destroyed every team he has ever been on, yet he still gets calls from teams when a QB is injured due to his arm strength.

I figure the coaches believe JR can make plays that Flynn can't. For the most part they are right. When 2 kick muffs lead to 16 Gator points, you can't point to Russell as the reason LSU lost.

    Russell starts until he leaves.

Why are all of you so sold on Russell going pro??? I hope you realize arm strength is only PART of the qualifications for an NFL quarterback. Russell is a pretty lousy quarterback, he just has great physical talent. How are people giving the receivers like Bowe and Doucet cr*p for Russell's interceptions??? Do you people watch how many times these guys have to double across their bodies to make a catch cuz Russell continues to throw the ball 3 yards behind them??!!! How many times today on a screen pass or a crossing pattern or a flag route did Russell's crappy throw make a receiver completely lay out for a catch while a Florida safety barrelled for their head??? Do all of you honestly think NFL scouts find these traits attractive?????? Do you think NFL receivers are gonna put up with QBs like that?? Russell would make the current Brett Favre look like Joe Montana in his prime. I mean Rohan Davey was night and day better than Russell, and Davey was what, a 4th round draft pick his senior year? And one who's heyday was in NFL Europe at that...

I mean, get some perspective. In Al Pacino's words, I am OVER-F*%$ING-WHELMED!!! LSU may be the most talented team in the land as far as defense and receiving is concerned, and their O-line and rushing game (thanks to Hester) holding their own. But dumb penalties & special teams screw-ups (coaching) and half-*ssed passing (Russell) allows teams like Florida to trounce them in a game they should have cruised through. We should be undefeated and ranked #2 right now. I refuse to debate this. All we need is a consistent and accurate passer, not someone who'll make the highlight shows half the time but take a dump on the field the other half. With just a steady QB, we've got a national championship contender. As it is now we'll be lucky to get the Cotton Bowl again...

I have withheld any opinion on him on these boards because it really takes time to form a good opinion on a QB in a high-profile program. My opinion is that JR is not a big-time QB and he never will be. He isn't extremely mobile, he doesn't look off defenders, he doesn't always make good decisions, and he doesn't handle pressure and adversity well.

That said, the man is a servicable QB, but he isn't the MAN, so to speak.

Russell makes bad overthrows on passes over 20 yards... i cringe every time he throws the ball over the middle because he is going to get one of the WRs killed... but I want to see Flynn or Perrilloux simple to help out the running game... that extra threat with a running qb helps out alot... makes LBs stay closer to the line in passing situations, makes backside pursuit respect the bootleg on running plays, which opens up cutback lanes...

Take it a step further. If Jesse Daniels goes full speed he blocks the punt and it is a huge shift. Guess Daniels thought he was too far away from the punter to make a play. He could have easily blocked it.
