Alabama is up there because they have players that were voted in the top 3 recruiting classes the past two years. They have 2 O-linemen who are huge (6'7 340 and 6'5 310) and 1 of them was voted as the #1 offensive lineman in the nation coming out of high school (D.J. Fluker). Our QB Greg McElroy (G-Mac) is very familiar with the system and is said to be very accurate. We also have Julio Jones alongside a Senior WR Mike McCoy and a sophmore WR Marquis Maze who is very fast. Alabama also has a GT transfer Colin Peek who is a very physical TE. Also I'm an Alabama fan
I realize that you do, indeed, have talent in many, many positions @ Alabama. But the absence of a QB in the SEC who has actual "real" game experience can be a problem. McElroy may pan out because he's older than our QB's (with the exception of Hatch, who wasn't SEC-caliber) were last year. However, a QB can make or break an offense. LSU, also, had a couple of terrific WR's and an incredible TE, but it didn't make up for inexperience @ QB. I'm actually very interested to see how Bama's fares with a new starting QB. If he pans out, Bama will be really strong. I have to think if McElroy was that great, he'd have beaten out JPW, but maybe that's just me.
I'm not a Bama fan...just a realist. Don't underestimate the capabilities of a power running game and a stout D. Bama will be in the mix with us and OM for the West, QB be damned. JPW was not that good, anyway...
that doesnt matter in voting for a #1 team if the media hacks like the team they vote them in. look at us last year with jarrett lee. we were up there with him and an underachieving defense the year before returning. plus they love saban. this ones easy. a simple case of addition by subtraction.
