If Miles pulled a Richrod at LSU, in three years he would be gone. Simply bad, bad fit at Michigan from the get go. Players aren't competing in all their contest. Cut them losses, too late for a knee jerk reaction. I think they already know if Harbaugh is willing and Miles being the Michigan man he is, knows as well.
Besides the fact that he says he is happy where he is at, and he and his family happy with where they are at, I think that is probably a major concern of his. I think that had he taken over the job after Carr things may have been different. I think he may look at Mich now as having some serious issues that in a 3 yr period may not be able to be fixed by someone new coming in. As you say, his dream job would be over mainly because he couldn't turn things around fast enough. So why leave the ship you're already captain of, that has unbelievable talent that is already bought into your methods, that you are already successful at, that all you need to do is fix 1 or 2 possition coaches and get a QB (which you believe you already have in ZM), have a fan base that for the majority is behind you, are making a ton of money at, and your family loves it here.
I'd like to think that LSU is his Michigan. I saw somewhere that Bo told him to find his own Michigan and I think he has. Other than a few of us that call for his head now and then, he is here until he is ready to leave. He could build a legacy right here, and as stated most of the parts are already in place. We all know that this is the best place to raise a family and being a family man, I'm sure Les sees it as well.:miles:
No crap, he is already (wins) in 3rd place all time at LSU. He has the highest winning percentage of any coach at LSU that coached at least 50 games. And if he wins another national championship, or even an SEC championship or 2, I would have to believe that the detractors that are LSU "fans" would not be able to do anything except shut up. Well, at least I would hope they would. I think he has it made here. And personally, quirky, strange at times, I don't care, Les is my head coach and I hope he stays a long time.
Yes to this, but is this sentiment too late. I will say that I don't think he is going anywhere, but if he does would part of the reason be because of the negativity and hatred some have toward him. If so, is the sentiment you are stating now too late. I think that is what has people like Cliff on edge right now. Given that Miles dream job is probably coming open, and given the right circumstances, which didn't exist in 2007, he would jump for the job. Are those right circumstances in place now. Has Miles had enough of the negativity geared towards him? Although you have not been one of those that has been calling for his head, at least I can’t remember if you did, there are those that have but now are on the fence. Even though Miles has made mistakes and needs to make some serious changes in the coaching staff, which many blame him for, he did somehow pull off a 10 win season. That isn’t done thru luck, some maybe but not all. That takes a head coach that knows where the weaknesses are, that works on those weaknesses, and utilizes the strengths to get the best out of what he has. By doing so Miles has changed the minds of many of the Miles bashers, but is it too late. Again, I will say I don’t think he is going anywhere, but it is this fear that has fans that have not wanted Miles to go and that have not been wanting his head a little worried with the Michigan situation. These fans fear that the time maybe right and that his dream may just be too great to ignore. That Miles may just make that leap in hopes to go home where he will be appreciated more than where he currently is. Where he currently is doing the things that Michigan would love for him to do there. Beating long time rivals, having winning seasons that have his team in the MNC contention to the end, and winning conference championships and national championships.
I don't think it's too late because I think Miles is smart enough to know that anywhere he goes there will be haters. There were haters at OSU, there are haters here, there will be haters in Michigan. The thing about the dream job is, some said in 07 that that would be his only chance to ever coach at Michigan. Well, not so fast. 3 years later the job could be open again. Who's to say it won't be open at a later date with better program? Personally, if I were him, and I wasn't an LSU fan, I would look at the situation at Michigan. While Miles does somewhat coach a spread offense here at LSU, that isn't his forte, i know he has tried to hybrid the spread and the I formation, or 2 tight sets. If he went to Michigan, he would have an offense and players that were completely recruited to run the spread. All speed, not really that much talent. Not really that physical. He would be stuck with that for at least 2 years, with no physicality on Defense, and by then, it could curtains for him there. I think he is going to wait again for this job to come up, 7 or 8 years down the line. Will he still be at LSU by then? Well I hope so because if he is here for 7 or 8 more years, then LSU is going to be the shiznit for those 7 or 8 years because if not, he would have been run out of town.
I agree with you completely. I'm just pointing out some possible concerns some might have. Personally, as I have stated, I think he is happy here and right now isn't the right time to go to Michigan. As you have pointed out, his dream job could be over in 3 yrs if he couldn't duplicate what he has done here there.
I've felt that CLM is the best coach LSU has had - better than Saban. He isn't a mouthpiece that many like. He is a winner and that is what counts in my book. He'll have my support till the end. I feel like another NC in next two years with him.
Miles has school age kids. If he goes to Michigan he would uproot these kids and move them to a new school etc. This is the only place that the younger ones know as home. Because they were raised here most if not all their lives they are coonasses just like us. They would have one hell of a culture shock moving to the artic wasteland of Michigan. This will play on his mind. Mrs. Miles has made baton rouge home also. She probably has very close friends and if she wants to stay and raise the kids here I think miles will agree. We all know if momma ain't happy then noone's going to be happy. On the business end of things, do you think mett would have not asked les if he was going to be coach at lsu before he signed with the tigers. I don't think les would have lied to him and said yes he would be here and then bolt. Les wouldn't lie to mett. Les is no saban and if he told mett he wanted to coach him here at lsu he wouldn't stab him in the back and go out a liar. Miles knows he had a young team this year and most are going to be back next year and he will be coaching a powerhouse mnc contender for the next few years. Why leave to try to rebuild a program when you are poised to have a dynasty where your at.
